The first trailer for The Alto Knights has been released.
The Alto Knights is a new biographical crime drama movie directed by Barry Levinson. Starring Robert De Niro in a dual role, the film will be released in United States theaters this coming March.

What is The Alto Knights about?
“The film follows two of New York’s most notorious organized crime bosses, Frank Costello (De Niro) and Vito Genovese (De Niro), as they vie for control of the city’s streets. Once the best of friends, petty jealousies and a series of betrayals place them on a deadly collision course that will reshape the Mafia (and America) forever,” the synopsis reads.
De Niro plays both Vito Genovese and Frank Costello in the film. The cast also includes Debra Messing, Kathrine Narducci, Cosmo Jarvis, Michael Rispoli, Michael Adler, Ed Amatrudo, Joe Bacino, Anthony J. Gallo, Wallace Langham, Louis Mustillo, Frank Piccirillo, Matt Servitto, and Robert Uricola (“Raging Bull”).
The script for the movie was written by Nicholas Pileggi, while Irwin Winkler, Jason Sosnoff, Levinson, Charles Winkler, and David Winkler serve as producers and Mike Drake as an executive producer.
Levinson made his feature film directorial debut in 1982 with Diner. He then went on to direct 1984’s The Natural, 1985’s Young Sherlock Holmes, 1987’s Good Morning, Vietnam, 1999’s Rain Man, 1991’s Bugsy, 1997’s Wag the Dog, 2001’s Bandits, 2006’s Man of the Year, and, most recently, 2015’s Rock the Kasbah, among other titles.
Pileggi, meanwhile, is known for writing the 1985 non-fiction book Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family, which Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas was based on. Pileggi and Scorsese together co-wrote the screenplay for Goodfellas, which was released in 1990 and saw De Niro played James “Jimmy” Conway in Goodfellas alongside Ray Liotta’s Henry Hill and Joe Pesci’s Tommy DeVito.
Pileggi also co-wrote the screenplay for Casino (also based on a nonfiction book by Pileggi), which was released in 1995, and served as an executive producer on 2019’s The Irishman. De Niro starred in both of those films as well, while Scorsese directed them both.
The Alto Knights will be released in United States theaters on March 21, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
