

St. John the Evangelist Parish will hold food sales each Friday in Lent as well as on Good Friday. There will be potato pancakes, three for $5, and your choice of take-and-heat red pizza or white pizza with broccoli for $15 per tray.
Food can be picked up from 3:30 to 6 p.m. each Friday in the Monsignor Bendik Pastoral Center, enter on Church Street. Please call the parish office at 570-654-0053 by Thursday of each week to place orders.
3 Sisters now open
3 Sisters is now open at 350 Kennedy Blvd. The boutique is filled with a wide selection of jewelry, gifts and home goods. The shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Sabatelle’s Market reopens
Sabatelle’s is open once again following a December fire in the building next door. You can visit from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
St. Joseph Marello Golf Tournament
St. Joseph Marello will hold its 29th annual golf tournament Sunday, May 25, at the Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Club.
Unique to this event is that it features two hole-in-one prizes: one for $10,000 sponsored by the law firm of Saporito, Falcone and Watt, and the other a two-year new vehicle lease from Coccia Ford Lincoln. The law firm and auto dealership have been valued sponsors of the event for many years and have helped make it the success it has become.

St. Joseph Marello bingo
St. Joseph Marello Parish Big Prize Bingo will be held Sunday, March 30. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and games begin at 2 p.m. in the parish hall.
Prizes will include home goods, outdoor items, purses and several cash prizes.
Tickets cost $25 when purchased in advance and $30 at the door, if still available. Bingo tickets include entrance and 20 regular games. Special games will be available for purchase, along with additional regular games, dabbers and other extras. Food and beverages will be available for purchase through the kitchen.
Call the parish office at 570-654-6902 to reserve tickets. Tables will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis for any parties of eight to 10. Seating for parties less than eight will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
YMCA news
The Greater Pittston YMCA is offering the following programs:
Pickleball: Pickleball on Saturdays and Sundays will now be held from 8 to 10 a.m.
Easter pool party: An Easter Egg Dip will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, March 30, at the YMCA. Join them for a plunge, dive and swim for eggs in the pool for an hour and then head to the gym after for age-appropriate activities. The cost is $5 per child for members and $10 for non-members.
Community helpers needed: The Early Learning Center at the YMCA is looking for volunteers to help the students learn more about the Pittston community. The Y will be teaching students all about the Pittston community and is looking for volunteers to come talk about what they do for the community. Exhibits at Art e Fekts
There will be an opening night of artist Karin Thompson’s showcase featuring a variety of mediums including acrylic and watercolor from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 11.
Lois Pluskey’s “Finding Joy – The Passenger” exhibit opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 9. The exhibit will feature a collection of original oil paintings and pastel drawings.
Rotary Club news
The Rotary Club of Pittston meets at 6:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of each month at Tony’s Pizzeria. Anyone interested in attending a meeting is welcome.
The Rotary has been serving the Pittston community since 1920.
Easter event
The fire station on Kennedy Street will host its annual visit from the Easter Bunny from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 12. The Easter Bunny will be there with hundreds of candy-filled eggs for a drive-thru event. Details will be announced closer to the event.
Treasurer’s office hours extended
The treasurer’s office will have extended hours through March 28. The office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Library news
Pittston Memorial Library announced the following programs and activities:
Children’s Summer Reading Program: The Summer Reading Kickoff will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14. Safari Farm Petting Zoo & Sanctuary will be at the event from noon to 2:30 p.m. There will also be face painting with TLC from noon to 3 p.m. The library thanks the Greater Pittston Santa Squad for helping make this possible.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten: The library is taking registrations for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten. This is a fun concept to get babies, toddlers and preschool-aged children interested in books at an early age. Children who haven’t started kindergarten are invited to participate. There will be a packet with an introduction to the program as well as book logs. Prizes will be awarded for each 100 books read; just bring the completed logs to the library. A free book and certificate will be awarded once your child has read 1,000 books. You can stop in to register and pick up the packet of book logs. You can register at the circulation desk.
Book Club: The Book Club’s March meeting is at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 31. The group will discuss “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. Stop by the library or call to pick up or reserve your copy.
Yearbooks wanted: The library is looking for gently used yearbooks to add to its collection. Specific years from Pittston Area, Hughestown and Seton Catholic high schools are requested. Please contact Jen Moran at 570-654-9565, ext. 21, or email [email protected] before dropping off.
