Zigmond (Bobb/Ziggy) Romanczuk OBITUARY

Lifetime resident of Dupont passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025, under the compassionate care of Sacred Heart Hospice, Scranton, and his cardiologist Dr. Martin Matsumura.

Born in Dupont, Pa, on May 22, 1933, he would have been 92 in May.

Bob was a father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be sadly missed by his family. He was preceded in death by his father Michael Romanczuk and his mother Mary Turek, brothers Daniel, Walter, Edmond, Alfred, Leonard, and Fred; sisters Irene, Caroline, Lillian, Clara and Estelle.

He is survived by his wife Betty Romanczuk; daughters Lynn (Hardisky) and Joyce (Salsburg); son-in-law, David; grandchild Lauren; great-grandchild Yarra; brother Michael and sister Loretta and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob retired from Wyoming Valley Distributing after 50 years of work and continued to work as a machinist and contractor until the age of 75. He was also a volunteer for Lions Club Dupont Food Drive. He was an active member of Pittston Planet Fitness where he enjoyed exercising every single day.

A proud veteran, Bob served in the US Army in Korea during The Korean War. He was stationed in Busan and Seoul, South Korea until honorably discharged with injury.

Bob was an excellent and enthusiastic gardener with his focus on growing canna lilies, tomatoes and garlic. He generously shared his crop each year with friends, neighbors and relatives. He loved to sit on his porch for as much of the year as was possible, and anyone could stop by anytime to say hello or get advice. He would drop everything he was doing to go to help someone. He was also interested in the weather, news, politics and search a word puzzles.

Bob attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, where his father Michael was a founding member of the Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Zigmond (Bob / Ziggy) Romanczuk to Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center 1111 East End Boulevard, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711. Please include a note that states to direct your donation to Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center Recreation Therapy Department (8130) in memory of Zigmond Romanczuk.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 18, at 10AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 215 Lackawanna Avenue, Dupont, Rev. Father Thomas J. Petro celebrating. Those wishing to attend are asked to go directly to the church. At the request of the family, a private graveside interment service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to Lokuta-Zawacki Funeral Home, Dupont.
