KINGSTON — A local family’s life changed in an instant after winning more than $200K at the recent NFC Championship game.
Jason Thompson says he’s not a lucky man.
Last Sunday, he was.
“When I looked down at that ticket, I thought there was no way this was real,” Thompson, 43, said. “It was a blessing.”
Thompson said he didn’t know he was the big winner until his ride home.
He and his wife, Melissa, played the 50/50 drawing at the NFC Championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders. The Eagles won 55-23 to reach Super Bowl LIX where they will play the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
They bought a ticket because the Eagles were promoting a fundraiser for autism awareness.
The Thompsons were supporting the “Philadelphia Eagles Autism Foundation” because their son, J.J., is “on the autism spectrum.”
“I’m usually not lucky when it comes to winning, but my wife is my lucky charm,” Thompson said.
The day they traveled back to Philadelphia to collect their winnings they were greeted by Eagles legend Jason Kelce, who brought the family a box of Lucky Charms cereal.
“He always wanted to run into Jason Kelce one day in life,” Thompson said.
Thompson says he always buys 50/50 tickets when he goes to games to support the cause.
“It’s always a donation,” Thompson said. “What are the odds?”
