The spring sports seasons have come to a conclusion in California, and with All League teams announced, the Northern Section writers have come together in selecting this year’s All Northern Section teams.
The All Northern Section teams are voted on by sports reporters in the Northern Section including Rick Silva from the Red Bluff Daily News, Jeff Larson from the Marysville Appeal-Democrat, Justin Couchot from the Chico Enterprise-Record, and reporters Aaron Williams from Redding and Jennifer Corriea from Colusa.
Beginning with the girls, Pleasant Valley’s AJ Gambol got her fourth All Section First Team selection in her senior season and second straight Player of the Year honor after averaging a career-high 20.6 points per game. She finished her four-year career averaging 17.1 points per game. Gambol is the lone player on any of the three teams this season to have been honored as a freshman in 2022.
Co-Player of the Year Joanna Warren from University Prep along with Gridley’s Brook Marr received their third straight All Section First Team honor. Warren averaged 21.4 points per game, 12.6 rebounds per game, 5 assists per game and 2.4 steals per game to help lead the Panthers to a 25-4 overall record and 10-0 finish in the Northern Athletic League. Marr averaged 21.1 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game and 4 blocks per game for the Bulldogs.
Pleasant Valley forward Ava Dunn received her second All Northern Section honor. Dunn was second team as a center in 2023, missed the teams in 2024, but this season returns after averaging 4.3 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per game, 2.5 steals per game and 1.6 blocks per game for the Eastern Athletic League champion Vikings.
Colusa’s Danica Chavez received her first All First Team honor after being on the Second Team in 2024, Anderson’s Taylor Ford received her second straight All Northern Section Second Team honor, and Las Plumas’ Ava Hepworth moved from Third Team in 2024 to Second Team this season.
It is the second Coach of the Year honor for Hayfork coach Jim Bayley. Bayley, who led the Timberjacks to a 18-9 record and 9-1 finish in the Evergreen League, received Coach of the Year in 2005 as well.
