The Chico State women’s basketball team saw its outstanding season end with a loss in the second round of the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament on Saturday night.

The seventh-seeded Wildcats got 23 points from Makenzi Laporte and 22 from Jordan Allred, but fell to No. 6 Central Washington 79-73 in the regional semifinals at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson.

The loss left Chico State with a final record of 24-8. Central Washington improved to 22-7 and will face top-seeded Cal State Dominguez Hills on Monday for the regional title.

The Wildcats trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half but went on a 12-0 run, with a jumper by Jadence Clifton tying the score 36-36 at intermission.

A layup by Allred put Chico State up 38-36 early in the second half, but Central Washington scored the next eight points and led for the rest of the game.
