The Chico-Paradise SIR’s Golf Club held an ABCD, four-man scramble tournament at Bidwell. The team members were randomly selected based on handicap from four ranges, with the intent to balance out the total team handicap.
Taking first was the team of Kevin Gifford, Ed Main, Doug Shook and Bob Wessels with a score of 60, helped out no doubt by Main who scored an eagle 2 on the par 4, 17th hole. Second: Glen Pertuit, Ron Peterson, Cap Porterfield and Charles Staser, 61.1. Third: Ted Dzwonek, Darrell Hands, Keith Martinson and Joe Velasquez, 61.6. Fourth: Kurt Himmler, Lloyd Lee, Alex Van Patten and Steve Velasco, 62.6. Fifth: Kyle Glaziner, Craig Herman, Dennis Keyser and Dave Moore, 63.5.

Butte Creek Country Club
The Butte Creek Senior Men’s Golf Club held an individual stroke play, plus skins for its monthly tournament, divided into two flights. First flight: 1, Jim Westcott, 73; 2, Mike Bechtol, 76, and overall low gross, 78. 3, Jeff Fontana, 77. Second flight: 1, tie, Dave Harrison and Henry Brown, 73; 3, Rovane Younger, 76.
The Butte Creek Women’s Golf Club played a 3-Player, 1 Best-Ball Net, plus the Best Putt for its weekly game. First: Janet Alves, Vicki Ellcessor and Suzy Mann, 84. Second place was a tie: Irma Jenkins, Darlene Thomasson and Susie Westcott, along with the team of Jayne Bunting, Shirley Leighty and Joye Smith, 86.
Bidwell Park Golf Course
The Bidwell Park Women’s Golf Club played a game of “Criss Cross” for its weekly tournament. Players could choose their best score on No. 1 or No. 10, No. 2 or No. 11, etc.

Table Mountain Golf Club
The Table Mountain Women’s Golf Club was finally able to garner enough players for its weekly tournament. Soggy course conditions had somewhat hampered play the last month or so, just like the rest of the courses in the north state. The format was standard stroke (medal) play. Deb Miller was overall low gross shooting 91. Sally Stemen was low net at 83.

Canyon Oaks CC
The Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club selected the best score on either the front nine or back nine for its weekly game. Karen Escott was overall low gross with an 89. Joan Wagoner shot a net 73 to take overall low net. Game: 1, Wagoner, 26.5; 2, Escott, 27.5; 3, tie, Linda Alworth, Evie Spring and Jakki Thomas, 28.
The Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club also held an ABC Blind Draw, Net Scoring Scramble Tournament last week. Taking first was the team of Cathy Edgar, Jakki Thomas and Nancy Vieira, 62.05. Second: Shelley Carney, Sue Osterholt and Lori Rainwater, 62.2; Third: Linda Arellano, Gina Snider and a blind draw, 65.25; Fourth: Lynne Beyers, Karen Escott and Melinda Self, 66. Closest to pin on No. 3 — 1, Carney; 2, Snider; 3, Susan McVicker Wever. A highlight of the day was an eagle on the 7th hole by Nancy Vieira, which may have had a bearing on their team finishing first, just saying.
Significant achievement
Joe Garcia had a nice round to remember, playing the Links at Rolling Hills last week. Garcia posted a one-under par score of 71, which included an eagle on the par 4, 11th hole and 4 birdies along the way, resulting in a 4-under par score of 32 on the back nine. Attesting to his great round were his playing companions, Dick Brooks and Gary Kollenborn.
Spectacular shots
Becky Callas scored her first ever hole-in-one on the 4th hole at Bidwell last week during the weekly outing of the Bidwell Women’s Golf Club. Callas was playing in the company of Donna Ensele and Sheila McMurphy when she hit a perfect 88-yard, gap wedge into the cup. Callas was double lucky, because the 4th hole was also the closest to pin hole that day. Doesn’t get better than that!
Dennis Bruggman left little doubt who won closest to the pin on the par 3, 4th hole during the El Rancho Chico Golf Club 4-Man, 2 Best-Ball tournament last Sunday. Bruggman hit a perfect, 115-yard, 9-iron tee shot into the cup for his first career hole-in-one. His teammates, relishing the feat, were Mark Gray, Mike Hull and Alex Van Patten.
Also, as noted above, Ed Main posted an eagle 2 on the 344-yard, par 4, 17th hole at Bidwell last week while playing in the SIR’s tournament. Witnessing his 150-yard approach shot find the bottom of the cup were his teammates, Kevin Gifford, Doug Shook and Bob Wessels.
Fresh off his win in the Butte Creek Senior Men’s Club tournament last week, Jim Westcott scored an eagle 3 on the 429-yard, par 5, 10th hole. Smiling and applauding his perfect, 114-yard, 9-ireon approach shot disappear into the cup were his teammates, Dave Harrison, Randy Holt and Don Krysakowski.
Nancy Vieira scored an eagle 2 on the 215-yard, par 4, 7th hole at Canyon Oaks during the ABC Scramble Tournament last week to the delight of her teammates, Cathy Edgar and Jakki Thomas.
