Dearest Gentle Reader,

On June 13th, Netflix released the much anticipated second half of Bridgerton season 3, with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) as the romantic leads. After a six months-long global press tour, millions of fans were extremely excited to see Polin's love story unfold on the screen. Although the season was beautiful, and Luke and Nicola did an absolutely amazing job, fans were left a bit unsatisfied with the lack of happy moments between the couple. Throughout the world tour, we were made to believe that we would see 'Polin take on the world together', unfortunately that was not how most fans experienced Part 2. In total, Polin only had 78 minutes of screen time in their own season, compared to 113 minutes for Saphne (S1) and 89 minutes for Kanthony (S2). Source.

 

 

Quite a few people noticed that there were fewer intimate and romantic scenes, in comparison to what we were told during the promo period. And there seems to be a reason for that….

Prior to the release of Part 2, screeners were able to see some episodes in advance. These episodes were filled with romantic / intimate moments, that would have made the season feel more complete and cohesive. However, for some reason, these ended up being cut.  

Some of the scenes that were cut:

• Colin going home with Penelope after he finds her at the modiste, which leads to an angry kissing scene 
• Polin laying in bed together talking about publishing Colin’s manuscripts
• Colin whispering sweet nothing's to Pen in front of the mirror, kissing her neck and being playful
• Long intimate montage in episode 8 (including a scene in which Colin goes down on Pen)

We’d like Netflix to do Polin justice, by either releasing the deleted scenes separately, or releasing an extended cut. The latter should definitely be possible, considering Netflix has already set multiple precedents in the past. Netflix has already released the 'Arrested Development S4 Original Cut', and an extended cut for Jawan, and is due to release a director's cut for Rebel Moon later this month. 

Luke, Nicola and the rest of the cast and crew have done such a fantastic job this season. Knowing so many beautiful and vulnerable scenes did not make the cut, feels like an injustice to their hard work. We'd love to be able to enjoy these scenes, which would definitely benefit Netflix as well, as the fans would undoubtedly rewatch them endlessly.
