Manama, Apr. 11 (BNA): Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, emphasised that the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix is among the most prominent global sporting events supporting sports tourism, a key pillar of the Kingdom’s Tourism Strategy for 2022–2026. She noted that the event plays a vital role in driving the growth of the tourism sector.

The minister added that the Bahrain Grand Prix represents a comprehensive tourism season, contributing positively to both tourism and economic indicators.

She highlighted its exceptional value as a platform to promote the Kingdom of Bahrain internationally and to showcase the nation’s rich cultural identity.

Al Sairafi affirmed that Bahrain’s successful hosting of international sporting events of this scale reflects global confidence in the Kingdom’s advanced tourism infrastructure and its capacity to organise major events.

She credited this to the expertise of national professionals who have developed substantial experience through the consistent success of races at Bahrain International Circuit.

She said that the Bahrain Grand Prix significantly stimulates tourism activity and supports key performance indicators in the sector.

Last year’s race attracted around 100,000 visitors and motorsport fans from across the globe, leading to increased hotel occupancy rates, longer visitor stays, and higher tourist spending.

Related sectors such as restaurants, shopping centres, and logistics services also benefitted from the heightened activity surrounding the event.

The minister underlined the importance of leveraging major sporting events to promote Bahrain’s unique tourism offerings and to strengthen its presence on the global tourism map.
