of course he did, we wouldn't have recognized him otherwise- plus it was a some goal keeping workshop
KC Comets -- rocking the sash before the sash was cool again... By the way, any chance of them paying homage to the sash with their new unis, or maybe as a throwback jersey?
Love the sash. love the dark blues with the logo and colors. Nice video too. How do you not smile when you hear "Gooooose", "Tasso Koutsouuuuukas", "Damiiiiir Haramina', or Kevin Wall's voice. I spent many nights as a kid listening to radio games and his vouice, wishing I could watch it on TV. Also good to see a picture of Tino Litieri and his parrot, Ron Newman going apoplectic, and Greg Makowski pinging rockets from impossible distances with his grasshopper legs. Not sure how Elson Seal's 3 consecutive OT winners didn't make the video, but still, big smiles.
This may have been stated in an article posted above (I didn't see it), but the Independence Events Center website has the Comets home opener listed. Friday, November 12th 7:35 p.m.
Old logo -- all the way. Reminds teams that this isn't our first rodeo...could maybe use a little updated shadowing or outlining though...
this should be a landslide for the old logo. i'd be surprised if even 10% of those old enough to remember the glory days of the comets vote for the new logo. it's not even a contest between the two.
This Comets team is going to be complete and utter crap. I dont want them affiliated with the original Comets in anyway. New logo all the way.
That's like saying the MO Mavericks are complete and utter crap compared to the NHL. Would it have been so bad if the Mavs had instead become The Blades? (I know the Blades weren't NHL, but at the height of the IHL -- there was some serious hockey being played and KC was a part of that; kind of like how the MISL at its height was a respectable product as far as fan enjoyment and support went.) The Comets were really good at a bastardized version of the game. But as an American, I have a soft spot in my heart for that bastardized version because for close to 20 years its all we had. And I loved that the Comets were the tops for a while. But we've moved on as a country, and I think indoor soccer was collateral damage as a result -- leaving it in the sorry state it's in now. But still, why can't we put a winning team together in the context of modern indoor soccer? How do you know it will be a crap team? Why can't the new Comets be what the Mavs are to the CHL -- a brand new team with great community support who can have a great first season (though I don't know how they handle playoffs in a 5-team league...)
The Comets can win the MISL title every single season and still be crap. I'm not talking about their win-loss record, I am talking about the quality of play in the MISL. Indoor soccer died in the early part of this millennium. Their are now like 3 "professional" indoor soccer leagues when the MISL fell apart in 2007 or so. The product now is crap. I will still go to games and support the team but this incarnation needs to have nothing to do with the original. That's how I feel and I am sticking to it.
Felixx - I don't disagree with some of the stuff your saying. MISL is not what it used to be as far as quality of players. When guys like Preki stepped off the MISL Indoor field and went right to playing in the EPL. To a certain extent our MLS isn't even at the quality of player to what the MISL was in the 1981-1986 range. But I have seen some of the YouTube video of the Championship game last year and it looks like good ball to me with talented players. It's a different type of athlete almost. http://blogs.pitch.com/plog/2010/07/sports_news_on_a_day_without_sports.php I'm excited that I get to watch soccer year round like yourself, in two really nice venues. I'm actually going to try go to the press conference today.
I sat through the U19 championship game between Crew Jrs and FC Delco from the OP complex that aired on FSC... How bad could the Comets be?
Based on the photos from the press conference from Thad it looks like they went with the old logo. http://www.backpost.net/2010/07/missouri-comets-hold-press-conference.html
Yes they did. Old logo, plan on using Midnight Express, pretty much all of the old Comets experience. They want you to feel like you saw a soccer game and a rock concertat the same time.
http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=4073853 They'll have a nice close rivalry game too. Omaha is in for this season too.
I tell you what I sure would like to have teams in OKC, Omaha, Des Moines. While they are not major league markets they neither is this league, and regional rivalries seem to stick fairly well.
This is going to be such epic shit. I mean on the Bulgarian disco level. The first and only Indoor 'Soccer' Game I ever went to was a Milwaukee Wave game where I saw the game I love compared to a soccer/hockey/disco inferno hybrid that was so awesome that the Wave sold nearly 3500 seats in a championship year. The Bradley Center sucked but I think the Wave and the abortion of a game they played actually made it worse. Needless to say I will be there to laugh at it and get all Outdoorposer about it all. It should be called Sockey. I appreciate that many of you have nostalgic memories linked to the Comets. I simply can't contain my scorn. I will now only lurk on this thread.
I'm not a big fan of the indoor game, but I'll be there on opening day - they're reserving a chunk of seats for Cauldron people. Justice and Jared are helping set some stuff up, should be a fun party. The Kings games were always a blast when we take the Cauldron indoors.
