Two people sustained serious head injuries after a car collided with a fallen tree.

The collision occurred on the B3134 Broad Road near Blagdon, North Somerset, on Sunday around 19:30 GMT.

Avon and Somerset Police believe the car either collided with a fallen tree or was struck by it as it fell.

A woman in her 50s and a man in his 60s are currently receiving treatment at Southmead Hospital and officers are asking witnesses to come forward.

The woman's condition is life threatening, while the man's injury is potentially life changing.

"Specifically, we believe there was a motorist who was travelling in the opposite direction who may have seen what happened but left the scene before police arrived," a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said.
