This victory solidifies Alcaraz’s position as a rising star in tennis, adding to his impressive collection of four Grand Slam titles.
The 21-year-old Spaniard now boasts an unblemished record in major finals. His achievements include consecutive Wimbledon titles, the 2022 US Open, and his first French Open crown last month. Alcaraz’s remarkable performance against Djokovic, who had been playing with a knee support following surgery on a torn meniscus, was a testament to his dominance on the court. Despite Djokovic’s efforts to save three championship points and break back in the third set, Alcaraz held his nerve to edge the tie-break and seal a stunning victory.
Alcaraz expressed his joy and fulfillment after the match, saying, “Honestly, it is a dream for me winning this trophy,” he said. “I did an interview when I was 11 or 12 and said my dream is to win Wimbledon. I’m fulfilling my dream. For me, this is the most beautiful tournament, the most beautiful court, and the most beautiful trophy.”
Reflecting on the challenging moments of the match, he added, “When it was 40-0, I was seeming so far away. Djokovic is an unbelievable fighter. I knew he was going to have his chances. It was difficult, but I tried to stay calm going into the tie-break and tried to play my best tennis. I was glad at the end I could find the solutions.”
This win places Alcaraz in elite company, as he becomes only the second man in the Open Era, after Roger Federer, to win his first four Grand Slam finals. Remarkably, he has achieved this milestone before his 22nd birthday, outpacing legends like Federer, Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal.
