This account of the U-boat campaign in the World War I represents the official British history of the war against the German submarine attack on shipping. From a few fragile craft, the U-boats grew to become the greatest menace to Britain's survival. By 1917, the UK was close to starvation. The adoption of the convoy system slowly turned the tide. Both experts in the field, Gibson and Prendergast were best suited to produce such a book. The foreword is written by Earl Jellicoe. "The German Submarine War" brings to life the great struggle for mastery of the shipping lanes that was the war at sea from 1914 to 1918.

Great book when it comes to the great nations. In my case study almost inexistent approaches to the German submarines in the coast of Portugal. Nevertheless the great work when it comes to the general study of German submarines the First World War.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dry detailed account of WW1 Uboats.

A very dry detailed account of WW 1 German submarine warfare published in the 1920s. A lot of names, U-boat numbers, freighters and warships. Some nice maps of the North Sea and Mediterranean in color. Since the book is a reprint of an older edition the photography is soft. I love books on Submarines and am happy to have this but it is a tough slog.
