FOX 5 News in DC and the Baltimore Banner recently posted footage of ICE agents attacking the car of Maryland mother Elsy Noemi Berrios and her daughter, Karen Cruz Berrios, as they were parked in the street on March 31.

The elder Barrios is originally from El Salvador and seeking asylum, but the Banner reported she is now being held at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Pennsylvania.

The attack began with officers trying to convince Cruz Barrios to exit the vehicle but escalated into an agent bashing the driver’s side window and spilling glass onto occupants. Agents then pulled Noemi Barrios, who is undocumented, from her seat and threw her against the side of the vehicle as her daughter cried.

“Don’t grab her like that!” shouted Cruz Barrios. “Mommy, no. Mommy.”

Agents had been stalking Barrios’ home in the days leading up to the grab, having previously visited the property without being allowed entry each time.

“They didn’t have a warrant. They knew their rights. ICE went away,” said Halle Blitzstein, the mother’s Baltimore-based attorney.

“I didn’t know they could do something like that — especially when you hadn’t done anything,” Cruz told reporters.

The 52-year-old mother is associated with the violent gang MS-13, said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin in an email. “Americans can rest assured that she is off our streets and locked up. I hope the media will stop doing the bidding of these gangs that murder, maim, rape, and terrorize Americans, while ignoring the innocent victims,” McLaughlin wrote, and refused to answer follow-up questions regarding Barrios’ alleged criminality.

Cruz Berrios and Blitzstein deny the accusation.

“My mother, she works really hard since she was really little, and she never had anything to do with gangs or anything like that,” Cruz Berrios told CNN, adding that her mother came to the U.S. to flee the El Salvadorian gang presence.
