No VAT on Private Education

No VAT on Private Education

SmarterUK firmly believes in the importance of choice, particularly for families with higher incomes who should have the freedom to invest in Private Education.

These individuals are already contributing via tax payments to public sector education even though their children are not utilising the service they are funding.

The Labour Party’s policy of adding 20% VAT to Private Education fees will push the cost of private education out of the reach of many middle-class families, disrupting their children’s education or adding an even greater funding burden.

SmarterUK believes that levelling up should occur by increasing the quality of Public Education. However, this should be paid for across society in proportion to people’s earnings and not just via a tax on those perceived to be “rich,” as we must encourage hard work and allow people to be rewarded for success as a society.
