There are over 6000 languages in the world, different dialects within communities, pigins and creole languages, clicks and whistles, guttural and sweet, but how did this all begin? Who, what, how did we learn to speak so many languages? There are many theories. One of those theories suggests that the origin of language is monogenesis, some argue that perhaps the first language began with one of the most unlikely ancestors: Neanderthals. Is this possible? The focus of this paper is whether or not Neanderthals may have had the same capabilities for speech as modern humans.

The Origin of Language: An Analysis of Theories2019 •
This research article is a critical investigation of the origin of language in light of the Holy Qurᾱn. History states theories in origin of language which were practiced to answer the question of origin of language. The researcher has quoted and studied the theories in the field of evolution of language. The verses of the Holy Qurᾱn are stated in order to highlight the position and origin of language. The Qurᾱnic Arabic Corpus is used to present the concordance and collocation of the term language (tongue). The theories on origin of language have found with shortcomings and weak based arguments. Arabic language is the mother of all languages. Language existence is traced back with pre-world times, Allah spoke (Arabic language) to angels in regards of creation of man on earth. The constant repetition of words qāla 1618 times and qawl 92 times in the Holy Qurᾱn are also the evidences of language beginning when nothing was existed. Allah created first man (Ᾱdam-A.S) with the brain capacity of comprehending and speaking language. The findings suggest, language is purely gifted by Allah. It is a bestowed power of man to survive with effective communication on earth. In this research paper, the theories about the origin of language have been analyzed from Qurᾱnic perspective which shall be a productive addition.

The Evolutionary Origins of Language: Validating a New Theory2023 •
The origins of language have long been a subject of debate and speculation. Although hypotheses of how language might have originated have been formed, these hypotheses are outdated at best and no attempts have been made to improve on these theories or to formulate new ones. This study hence aims to devise a new theory discussing the origins of language by taking into account the shortcomings of existing theories and resolving these to form a new, more comprehensive theory. The new theory is structured as a process which, rather than only suggesting a single point from which language might have originated, focuses on detailing the entire process from language origin to present day modern language. This study also aims to provide evidence to substantiate the validity of the theory through reviews of existing research and analysis of documented proto-languages such as Proto-Indo-European (PIE) and Proto-Austronesian (PAN). Several areas of research that may provide further support for the theory will also be suggested. As such, this study will demonstrate that the issue of language origin does not have to be speculative in nature and can be based on tangible evidence such as hominin anatomy, genetics, documented proto-languages, and even modern languages. THE ORIGIN OF LANGUAGE: AN OVERVIEW OF EPISTEMOLOGICAL VIEWS2016 •
For many years, language origin has been one of the disputable topics of scholarly discussions. In spite of this long discussion, there has not been a definite answer to how language was evolved and how it is acquired. This paper adopts an interdisciplinary approach to reviewing different perspectives to language origin and language acquisition from Darwinian psychology, evolutionary psychology, domain-specific and domain general to a more recent view of domain-relevant by Karmiloff-Smith (2015) and ends up with the emergentistic view of language origin. It also scrutinizes different debates between some scholars for this purpose. Finally, it is suggested that the emergentism provides a more effective approach to addressing language origin. It is hoped that the interdisciplinary nature of this review paper provides applied linguistics with insights into discovering new research methodologies and cross-discipline collaborations.
