Elgar's surviving manuscripts, in the form of scores, musical sketches, letters and notebooks are examined here from his early exercises to "Enigma Variations" and "Cello Concerto". The book is illustrated from manuscripts in the collections of the British Library and the Elgar Birthplace Trust.
