Buffy the Vampire Slayer is an American franchise which spans several media and genres. It began in 1992 with the film Buffy the Vampire Slayer, written by Joss Whedon and directed by Fran Rubel Kuzui, and was resurrected as the television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1997. The show's popularity caused it to spawn a multitude of Expanded Universe tie-in material such as comic books, novels, and video games, as well as a spin-off program entitled Angel. In 2007, four years after the television series' seventh and final season, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was officially continued in the comic book Season Eight. The following is a list of minor recurring characters who appear in the franchise.

Amanda

Amanda is a Potential Slayer who appears in Season Seven, played by Sarah Hagan. A Sunnydale High student and member of the swing choir, she first appears in the episode "Help" as part of the seemingly-random stream of students showing up at Buffy's guidance office. Amanda was sent to Buffy for beating up another student who was picking on her. In the later episode "Potential", it is revealed that Amanda is in fact a Potential Slayer, and she aptly slays a vampire who threatens her and Dawn. Afterwards, Amanda moves into the Summers' residence, where she trains and becomes friends with her fellow Potentials. In the final episode of the show, "Chosen", Amanda is activated as a Slayer along with the other Potentials and battles against an army of Turok-Han vampires. She is last seen falling to the ground dead after her neck was snapped by a Turok-Han. She was the first Potential to kill a vampire and the first one to kill a Turok-Han.

Olivia (film)

Olivia (also known as The Pit of Loneliness) is a 1951 French film directed by Jacqueline Audry, and based on the 1950 semi-autobiographical novel by Dorothy Bussy. It has been called a "landmark of lesbian representation".

Plot

Olivia, an English teenager, arrives at a finishing school in France. Olivia finds comfort in the school which differs greatly from her former restrictive English boarding school and where the students and faculty are welcoming.

The majority of the pupils in the school are divided into two camps: those that are devoted to the headmistress, Mlle Julie and those who follow Mlle Cara, an emotionally manipulative invalid who is obsessed with Mlle Julie.

Olivia becomes an immediate favourite of Mademoiselle Cara who shows her a photograph album full of pictures of the history of the school. When Olivia admires a girl in the pictures, Laura, Mlle Cara becomes angry and withdrawn; another pupil later explains that before she left Laura was Mlle Julie's favourite pupil. Later Olivia hears Mlle Julie reading Andromaque and begins to fall in love with her.

Olivia (Bussy novel)

Olivia is the only novel by Dorothy Bussy (but not her only personal literary work) – published in 1949 at Hogarth Press, the publishing house founded by Leonard and Virginia Woolf. Bussy wrote it in French and signed her work with the pseudonym "Olivia." "Olivia" had been the name of one of Dorothy's sisters who died in infancy. The book was translated into English and then retranslated back into French. Bussy dedicated it "to the very dear memory of Virginia W."

Summary

The plot dramatizes the passion of a young English boarding student for one of her French teachers, Mlle Julie, whose character owes much to Marie Souvestre.

Critical reception and scandal

Its success was immediate, in the United Kingdom as much as in foreign countries. It was hailed as a minor masterpiece.

The novel caused a scandal when it first appeared, even though it belongs to an already well-established tradition, from Claudine à l'école by Colette (1900) to the film Girls in Uniform (Mädchen in Uniform) (1931), based on the play by Christa Winsloe. In their correspondence, Gide and Bussy did not fail to mention Mädchen in Uniform, the cinematic version of which had already been shown in Paris during the interwar period. In 1934 after this discussion Bussy sent the text, which she had been writing since the year before, to her close friend André Gide to ask his opinion. Gide's response having been unenthusiastic, Bussy gave up on publishing it for fifteen years. After the book's success, Gide apologized to Bussy for not having appreciated her work at first.

Olivia is the self-titled debut album by American R&B singer Olivia. It was released on April 17, 2001 by on J Records.

The album peaked at #55 on the Billboard 200 and #22 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), it shipped over 500,000 units in the United States. Its lead single, "Bizounce", reached #15 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Reception

Olivia received generally mixed reviews from music critics. Jon Azpiri of AllMusic praised the album, saying "her softer tracks show some versatility," and deemed Olivia's best works as coming from "when she is venting her spleen rather than revealing her soul."Entertainment Weekly's Mark Bautz commended the album's impeccable production, but felt it "lacks the overall energy and excitement of its best songs."

Olivia (Olivia Newton-John album)

Olivia is the second album from the singer Olivia Newton-John. Two of its songs were released as singles ("What Is Life" and "My Old Man's Got a Gun"). In its initial release, it was not issued in the United States, though it was sold there as an import. A digitally remastered version was released in 1995.

Reception

Olivia was a commercial failure when released in the UK on Pye International in 1972, as the follow-up to 1971's If Not for You. An American release of the LP never materialized. Therefore, the record label did not want to risk a release of the album in the United States on Uni Records, her US label at the time. Newton-John's subsequent release, Let Me Be There, would reach a sales position (UK Chart: 37) that would earn it the certification "Gold".

The cover art, done in blue tint, was later used (in a blueish-green tint) as the cover of the US release of Let Me Be There on MCA Records in 1973, following the success of the hit single penned by John Rostill.
