Palinges

Palinges is a commune in the Saône-et-Loire department in the region of Bourgogne in eastern France.

Geography

The Bourbince flows south through the middle of the commune.

    Épalinges is a municipality in the district of Lausanne in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

    It is a suburb of the city of Lausanne.

    History

    Épalinges is first mentioned in 1182 as de Spanengis.

    Geography

    Épalinges has an area, as of 2009, of 4.57 square kilometres (1.76 sq mi). Of this area, 0.86 km2 (0.33 sq mi) or 18.8% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.17 km2 (0.45 sq mi) or 25.6% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 2.59 km2 (1.00 sq mi) or 56.7% is settled (buildings or roads).

    Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 42.7% and transportation infrastructure made up 8.3%. Power and water infrastructure as well as other special developed areas made up 1.3% of the area while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 3.5%. Out of the forested land, 24.1% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.5% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 10.7% is used for growing crops and 6.8% is pastures, while 1.3% is used for orchards or vine crops.
