Zombi (film series)

The Zombi series refers collectively to various European horror films that have been falsely marketed as sequels to either George A. Romero's Italian-American film Dawn of the Dead (1978) or Lucio Fulci's Italian film Zombi 2 (1979); the latter was itself falsely marketed as a sequel to the former. A confusing history has emerged from the practise of retitling films for release in different countries, in which a given film may have a different title in each country in which it is released. In Britain, these films were released as the Zombie Flesh Eaters series. In North America, these same films became known as the Zombie series.

For the European release of Romero's Dawn of the Dead, the film was re-edited by Dario Argento and re-scored by Goblin, and retitled Zombi. Following its success, a zombie film by Lucio Fulci that was already in production was retitled Zombi 2 to appear as an ersatz sequel. A series of increasingly tenuous efforts by various producers to capitalize on the Zombi name ensued.

Perfectionist (album)

Perfectionist is the debut studio album by English singer Natalia Kills. It was released on 1 April 2011 through will.i.am Music Group, Cherrytree Records, KonLive and Interscope. Despite having started an acting career, Kills ventured into rap and released a single in 2005; however, her label went bankrupt. Kills continued working as a songwriter until 2008, when she was signed by will.i.am and started recording for the album.

Kills worked with musicians including Fernando Garibay, Jeff Bhasker, and Martin Kierszenbaum, and created a concept album based on perfectionism. Its lyrical content contains references to love, sex, and money while its sound is mostly styled in synthpop and dance-pop. Perfectionist received generally mixed reviews from music critics, who criticised its music and preferred Kills' visual projects. The album performed moderately on international record charts, obtaining top 50 positions in some European countries. In the United States, it reached number 129, and has sold 14,000 copies there as of September 2013; in the United Kingdom, it peaked at number 134.

Zombie (song)

"Zombie" is a protest song by Irish rock band The Cranberries. It was released in September 1994 as the lead single from their second studio album, No Need to Argue (1994). The song was written by the band's lead singer Dolores O'Riordan, and reached No. 1 on the charts in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, and Germany.

It won the "Best Song" award at the 1995 MTV Europe Music Awards.

Production

Zombie was written during the Cranberries' English Tour in 1993, in memory of two boys, Jonathan Ball and Tim Parry, who were killed in an IRA bombing in Warrington.

Reception

The Rough Guide to Rock identified the album No Need to Argue as "more of the same" as the Cranberries' debut album, except for the song "Zombie", which had an "angry grunge" sound and "aggressive" lyrics. The Cranberries played the song on their appearance on the U.S. show Saturday Night Live in 1995 in a performance that British author Dave Thompson calls "one of the most powerful performances that the show has ever seen".

Yankee (motorcycle)

The Yankee motorcycle is a motorcycle which was produced in Schenectady, New York by the Yankee Motor Company in the 1970s. This company was started by John Taylor, a long-time resident of that area.

The motorcycle used an air-cooled two-stroke engine, designed by Eduard Giró that was produced by the Ossa firm in Barcelona, Spain. The engine was a unique combination of two Ossa cylinders, that produced a twin-cylinder engine of near 500 cc capacity. The Yankee frame, designed with help from Dick Mann, and running gear were produced in the US, and the entire motorcycle was assembled in the Yankee plant on Campbell Avenue in Schenectady.

Yankee (ferry)

Yankee (also known as Machigonne) is an early-20th-century steel hulled ferry which is registered as an historic vessel with the National Register of Historic Places. As of 2006 it was berthed in Hoboken, New Jersey. In mid-2013, the ferry was moved to the Henry Street pier in the Gowanus Bay Terminal in Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Operational history

Described as unusually luxurious for a day-voyaging vessel,Yankee was built in 1907 by the Philadelphian shipbuilding company Neafie & Levy for the Casco Bay and Harpswell Line. There is some confusion about her original name, with some sources listing it as Dida. It is unclear however, if the ship ever operated under that name, since she is commonly referred to as Machigonne from an early point in her career.

Machigonne began her service life ferrying passengers between Portland, Maine and the Calendar Islands in Casco Bay. In 1913, she was sold to the Nahant Steamship Line of Boston, Massachusetts, and used on the Boston, Nahant and Pines Island route.

Yankee (album)

Yankee is the second studio album by Japanese musician Kenshi Yonezu and fourth original album release. It was released on April 23, 2014, followed by his first live concert on June 27, 2014.

Background and development

In May 2012, Yonezu released Diorama, his third album and first to use his own vocals. It was released under independent label Balloom. The album was written, produced and illustrated entirely by Yonezu himself. The album was commercially successful, debuting at number six on Oricon's albums charts, and was one of the most sold independently released albums of 2012 in Japan.

A year later, Yonezu debuted under major label Universal Music Japan with the single "Santa Maria." Two of the songs were performed with a band, the first time Yonezu had worked like this. The single reached number 12 on chart provider Oricon's singles chart. This was continued in October 2013 with the single "Mad Head Love" / "Poppin' Apathy."

A week after his second single's release, Yonezu released his first Vocaloid song in two and a half years, called "Donut Hole" (ドーナツホール, Dōnatsu Hōru) using Gumi vocals. It was the first time he used a live band on a Vocaloid song. This song became a part of Yankee, with vocals recorded by Yonezu himself. followed by the first series of concerts in his career.
