Marshall (London cricketer)

Marshall (first name and dates unknown) was an English cricketer who had amateur status. He played in major matches for London Cricket Club during the 1730s and is recorded taking part in a major single wicket match at Kennington Common on Monday, 11 August 1735. Others involved in the fixture were Dunn, Ellis, Pool and Wakeland.

As Marshall had established his reputation by 1735, he must have been active for some years previously and his career probably began in the 1720s. Very few players were mentioned by name in contemporary reports and there are no other references to Marshall.

History

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.8 square miles (9.8 km²), of which, 3.5 square miles (9.1 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km²) of it (6.91%) is water. Marshall is located on the eastern bank of the French Broad River, one of the major river systems of western North Carolina.

Marshall is a city located in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is part of the Battle Creek, Michigan Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 7,088 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Calhoun County. The town operates a student exchange program with its sister city, Kōka, Japan.

Marshall is best known for its cross-section of 19th- and early 20th-century architecture. It has been referred to by the keeper of the National Register of Historic Places as a "virtual textbook of 19th-Century American architecture". It is home to one of the nation's largest National Historic Landmark Districts. There are over 850 buildings included in the Landmark, including the world-famous, Honolulu House.

History

Established in 1830, town founders Sidney and George Ketchum named the community in honor of Chief Justice of the United States John Marshall from Virginia—whom they greatly admired. This occurred five years before Marshall's death and thus was the first of dozens of communities and counties named for him.

Zoë (born Zoë Pollock, 19 January 1969, Peckham, London) is a British pop singer and songwriter, who had brief success in 1991 with two hit singles, "Sunshine on a Rainy Day", which climbed to #4 on the UK Singles Chart, and "Lightning", which reached #37 (and spent three weeks in the UK Top 40). Zoë has released two solo albums and five singles.

Career

She initially started her career in the mid-1980s, by auditioning for Jimi Cauty and Youth to be the lead singer for their band Brilliant. She began dating Youth, who would later produce her two solo albums.

Zoë released her debut single, "Sunshine On A Rainy Day", in late 1990, with two different music videos. It failed to reached the UK Top 40, however it was remixed and re-released in 1991 and it became a Top 10 hit, peaking at #4. Her début album, Scarlet Red and Blue (to which singer Sam Brown contributed) included "Sunshine on a Rainy Day" and another moderately popular song, "Lightning", which peaked and spent a respectable 3 weeks at #37 on the UK Singles Chart. The album, despite good promotion and reviews, however, did not sell well, reaching only #67 on the UK Albums Chart. It featured similar dance-pop tracks as well as soulful ballads. Soulful vocalists Sam Brown and Yazz both provided backing-vocals on the album. "Holy Days" was the last single from Scarlet Red and Blue, released in February 1992, but only managed #72. In 1991, Zoë sang backing vocals on Bananarama's Pop Life album, which was produced by Youth.
