Zathura

Zathura is an illustrated children's book by the American author Chris Van Allsburg as well as the title of a 2005 film based on the book. Two boys are drawn into an intergalactic adventure when their house is magically hurled through space. The book is a sequel to Jumanji, another illustrated book by Van Allsburg, and references are made, both visual and textual, to Jumanji.

Plot overview

As Zathura starts, the parents of two brothers, Walter and Danny Budwing, are leaving, but Walter and Danny don't get along with each other. Danny wants to play catch, while Walter wants to watch T.V. Danny tosses Walter a baseball which hits him on the head. Walter then chases Danny through the house and catches him in the park across the street from their house, where they find a board game called Jumanji: A Jungle Adventure.

Zathura (film)

Zathura: A Space Adventure (or just Zathura) is a 2005 American science fiction fantasy adventure film directed by Jon Favreau, and is loosely based on the illustrated book Zathura by Chris Van Allsburg, author of Jumanji. The film stars Josh Hutcherson, Jonah Bobo, Dax Shepard, Kristen Stewart, and Tim Robbins.

The film was shot in Los Angeles and Culver City, California and was released on November 11, 2005 by Columbia Pictures. Unlike the book, the film contains no Jumanji material and does not mention any Jumanji events. The film was however marketed as a spiritual sequel with the tagline "from the world of Jumanji comes Zathura". Despite positive reviews from critics, Zathura was a box office disappointment.

Plot

Brothers Walter (Josh Hutcherson) and Danny (Jonah Bobo) can never seem to get along with each other, or with their older teen-aged sister, Lisa (Kristen Stewart). While staying at their divorced father's home while he is away at work and Lisa is asleep, the boys discover an old clockwork-driven space-themed board game called "Zathura" in the basement. The two begin to play the game, the goal to be the first to reach the final space named Zathura. During each turn, the game provides a card with instructions, but the two quickly realize the cards affect reality, starting with a meteor shower. They soon discover the house is floating on a small rock alongside Saturn. Meanwhile, Lisa looks out the window, and believing it is merely dark, goes to shower for her date. When the boys try to warn Lisa about what has happened, they find she is frozen in cryonic sleep as a result of one of the cards. The brothers realize that the only way to end the game and hopefully return to Earth is to reach the end space of Zathura.

Zathura (document viewer)

Zathura is a free, plugin-based document viewer. It currently has plugins available for PDF, PostScript, and DjVu. It was written to be lightweight and controlled with vim-like keybindings. Zathura's customizability makes it well-liked by many Linux users.

Zathura has a mature, well-established codebase and a large development team. It has official packages available in Arch linux,Debian,Fedora,Gentoo,Ubuntu,OpenBSD, and Mac OS X.

Zathura was named after the film of the same name.

History

Development on Zathura began on 12 August 2009. On 18 September 2009, version 0.0.1 was announced to the Arch Linux community.

Zathura has been an official Arch Linux package since April 2010. It has been an official Debian package since at least 2011, as part of Debian Squeeze.

Features

Zathura automatically reloads documents. When working in compiled documents such as those written in LaTeX, Zathura will refresh the output whenever compilation takes place. Zathura has the option of enabling inverse search (using "synctex").
