Yukon Standard Time Zone

The Yukon Standard Time Zone (YST) was a geographic region that kept standard time by subtracting nine hours from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) resulting in UTC−9 after 1971, or from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) before 1972.

It included the Yukon, as well as a small region around Yakutat, Alaska (Alaska had been spread across four different time zones at the time). However, in 1975, the Yukon officially switched to Pacific Time zone (PST), which is UTC−8. Moreover, Alaska switched in 1983 from four time zones to two time zones, placing most of the state in Alaska Standard Time Zone (AKST), the time zone formerly known as Yukon Standard Time Zone, while the Aleutian Islands remained in the Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time Zone (until 1983 known as the Alaska-Hawaii Standard Time Zone).

Yukon Standard Time Zone is the same as Alaska Standard Time Zone. The only difference is that the name of the time zone was officially changed from Yukon Standard Time Zone to Alaska Standard Time Zone following the Alaska switch from four different time zones to predominantly UTC−9 in 1983.

Standard time

Standard time is the synchronization of clocks within a geographical area or region to a single time standard, rather than using solar time or a locally chosen meridian (longitude) to establish a local mean time standard. Historically, the concept was established during the 19th century to aid weather forecasting and train travel. Applied globally in the 20th century, the geographical areas became extended around evenly spaced meridians into time zones which (usually) centered on them. The standard time set in each time zone has come to be defined in terms of offsets from Universal Time. In regions where daylight saving time is used, that time is defined by another offset, from the standard time in its applicable time zone(s).

The adoption of standard time, because of the inseparable correspondence between time and longitude, solidified the concepts of halving the globe into an eastern and western hemisphere, with one prime meridian (as well its opposite International Date Line) replacing the various prime meridians that had previously been used.

Standard time (manufacturing)

In industrial engineering, the standard time is the time required by an average skilled operator, working at a normal pace, to perform a specified task using a prescribed method. It includes appropriate allowances to allow the person to recover from fatigue and, where necessary, an additional allowance to cover contingent elements which may occur but have not been observed.

Standard Time (album)

Standard Time is the debut album by former Wings guitarist Laurence Juber, released in 1982 on vinyl and never re-released. Some of the songs were recorded when Juber was still a member of Wings. Fellow Wings members Paul McCartney, Denny Laine and Steve Holley also performed on the album.

Yukon

Yukon (/ˈjuːkɒn/; also commonly called the Yukon) is the westernmost and smallest of Canada's three federal territories. Whitehorse is the territorial capital and Yukon's only city.

The territory was split from the Northwest Territories in 1898 and was named the "Yukon Territory". The federal government's Yukon Act, which received royal assent on March 27, 2002, established "Yukon" as the territory's official name, though "Yukon Territory" is also still popular in usage and Canada Post continues to use the territory's internationally approved postal abbreviation of YT. Though officially bilingual (English and French), the Yukon Government also recognizes First Nations languages.

At 5,959 m (19,551 ft), Yukon's Mount Logan, in Kluane National Park and Reserve, is the highest mountain in Canada and the second-highest on the North American continent (after Denali in the U.S. state of Alaska). Most of Yukon has a Subarctic climate, characterized by long cold winters and brief warm summers. The Arctic Ocean coast has a tundra climate.

Yukon (band)

Yukon was a three-piece experimental band from Baltimore, MD.

The band consisted of Nick Podgurski (drums/vocals), Sam Garrett (guitar) and Brad Smith (bass). Various four-piece incarnations included Denny Bowen (of Double Dagger and Roomrunner), and Tom Ferrara.

Regional and national touring with Little Women, Calabi Yau, Archaeopteryx and Rick Weaver of The New Flesh. Yukon also performed at Whartscape and the International Noise Conference (Miami, FL) in 2007. Members of Yukon co-curated with fellow Brooklyn math-rock band, Stay Fucked, the Dark Forces Swing Blind Punches festival in Philadelphia, which was held December 2006 and featured current innovative music from bands such as Dysrhythmia and Zs.

2007's Mortar was co-released by the band in part with Terra Firma Records. It was followed in 2008 by Medallion on Infinite Limbs. In the time that passed between Mortar and Medallion the band saw the exchange of original guitarist Tom Ferrara for Sam Garrett and the exit of guitarist/vocalist Denny Bowen. Medallion is the only recorded output of the shortly lived four-piece including both Garrett and Bowen on guitar. Medallion was recorded with Bowen on guitar after his leaving the band. This began the band's shift into trio and Podgurski's role as both drummer and vocalist. In early 2009, the song "Zero Gravity Chamber" was re-released as part of Damage Rituals Cassettes' "The Dead Hand: Human Machines" compilation along with tracks from groups such as Zs, Weasel Walter Trio, and Muscle Brain.
