The Flames was a musical group from Durban in South Africa. The band was originally formed in 1963 by guitarist Steve Fataar, bassist Brother Fataar (real name Edries Fataar), drummer George Faber and guitarist Eugene Champion. However this line-up would only be together to record a couple of songs. Ricky Fataar replaced George Faber as the band's drummer around 1964 and Edries Fredericks replaced Eugene Champion as the guitarist. Baby Duval briefly replaced Edries Fredericks in 1967 although it is unclear whether he was involved in any of the recordings that were released. Blondie Chaplin then replaced Baby Duval in 1967. This was to be the line-up from 1967 until their demise as a group in 1970.

Steve Fataar has confirmed that Baby Duval is featured as a performer on the Flames second album "That's Enough", which was released in early 1967.

"Young Girl" was an RIAA million-selling Gold-certified single, written by Jerry Fuller, performed by Gary Puckett & The Union Gap with instrumental backing by members of The Wrecking Crew, and released in 1968.

The song hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks, stuck behind (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding for the first week and Honey by Bobby Goldsboro for the remaining two. It also hit #1 on the UK Singles Chart and the US Cash Box listing.

The song is sung from the point of view of a man who has become distressed upon finding out that the girl he is with is under the legal age of consent. He is asking her to leave before things go any further, "Get out of here / before I have the time / to change my mind / 'cause I'm afraid we'll go too far."

In the UK, the recording enjoyed a second chart run in 1974, when it peaked at No. 6.

Gary Lewis and the Playboys released a version of the song on their 1968 album, Gary Lewis Now!

    was nur du tun kannst,
wann immer ich dich auch sehe.
    Lalala....
Jedes Mal, wenn ich bei dir bin,
will ich dich einfach nur küssen
und jedes Mal, wenn ich dich küsse,
    schlägt mein Herz lubdulu.
Und jedes Mal, wenn du mich festhältst,
    hoffe ich nur, du weißt,
    was nur du tun kannst,
wann immer ich dich auch sehe.
