The Color of Silence is the fifth regular studio album by Tiffany, released on November 7, 2000 (see 2000 in music). It represented a "comeback" for Tiffany, being her first studio album released in seven years, and the first released in the United States in ten years. It was released after Tiffany returned to southern California after living in Nashville, Tennessee for several years in an unsuccessful attempt to establish a career in country music; she never released any country albums until 2011's Rose Tattoo.
Originally, The Color of Silence was going to be released by Modern Records, but when this company ran into business troubles the release was switched to Eureka Records.
The Color of Silence is Tiffany's "alternative" album, even down to its cover art reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral. It experimented with different facets of the genre including darker textures and lyrics, distorted guitars in "Butterfly" and the unusual 11
8 time signature in "Flown". It received some very favorable reviews. A Billboard front-page article called it "thoughtful, intelligent, and full of grace", and said that it could be considered "Tiffany's equivalent to Alanis Morissette's landmark Jagged Little Pill." However, it did not achieve commercial success to match the critical welcome. It made it onto the shelves of many record stores, but was not heavily promoted; it ended up selling mostly to the established fan base which had stuck with Tiffany over the years, as well as to a few new fans attracted by word of mouth or dance club play of songs from this album.

Seagulls fly an opal sky
Likewise, fish are swimming in the ocean
Sunlight streaming thru the clouds
Not a care in this world, not a notion
I don't know if I should laugh or cry
You make me feel like I will never die
You can open my eyes with your sweet loving.
Flowers! gently open wide
Swallow me up whole inside a daydream
Everything is nothing here
And nothing really ever is as it seems
I appreciate the majesty
Colliding in this lovely catastrophe
You can open my eyes with your sweet loning.
...And it's a long, long way
It's a sunshine day
It's a long, long way from where I began...
The moon, he's smiling down on us
Stars, they dance across the heavens above
I feel like a child again
My arms wrapped around the girl that I love
Ooh, angel, you blow my soul
All the wonders of this world now unfold...
