You Can't Hurry Love

"You Can't Hurry Love" is a 1966 song originally recorded by The Supremes on the Motown label.

Written and produced by Motown production team Holland–Dozier–Holland, the song topped the United States Billboard pop singles chart, in the UK in the top 5, and in the Australian Singles Chart in the top 10, released and peaking late summer/early autumn in 1966. Sixteen years later, it would again become a number-one hit when Phil Collins re-recorded the song. It reached number-one on the UK Singles Chart for two weeks beginning in January 1983, and reached No. 10 on the US Singles Chart that same month.

History

Overview

The song, a memory of a mother's words of encouragement ("My mama said 'you can't hurry love/No you just have to wait' ") telling her daughter that with patience she will find that special someone one day, is an example of the strong influence of gospel music present in much of R&B and soul music. "You Can't Hurry Love" was inspired by and partially based upon "(You Can't Hurry God) He's Right on Time" ("You can't hurry God/you just have to wait/Trust and give him time/no matter how long it takes"), a 1950s gospel song written by Dorothy Love Coates of The Original Gospel Harmonettes.

You Can't Hurry Love (Concretes song)

"You Can't Hurry Love" is a song by Swedish band The Concretes from their debut album The Concretes. Its original Scandinavian release as a single was in 2003. It was re-released in the United Kingdom on June 14, 2004. There are two videos for the song: 1) an animated version directed by Lisa Milberg and Liselotte Watkins with illustrations by Liselotte Watkins and Marika Åkerblom, animated by Måns Swanberg; 2) the second version directed by photographer Thomas Klementsson is made up of stills.

Carl Wilson (album)

Carl Wilson is the self-titled debut studio album of The Beach Boys band member, Carl Wilson. The youngest of the three Wilson brothers in the band, Carl Wilson was reportedly at this time unhappy with the progress being made by The Beach Boys creatively. So Carl, just as his brother Dennis had a few years earlier, signed a contract with James William Guercio's CBS-distributed Caribou Records, which four years earlier put out Wilson's brother Dennis's album Pacific Ocean Blue and was also the current label of The Beach Boys. The album was released on March 27, 1981 and peaked at number 185 on the Billboard 200. Of the eight tracks on the album, seven of them are written by Carl Wilson and Myrna Smith, who was the wife of Carl's then manager Jerry Schilling, with track six being written by Carl, Myrna and Michael Sun.

Can't Hurry Love is an American sitcom that aired from September 18, 1995 to February 26, 1996 on CBS.

Premise

The series is about Annie, a single, thirty-something woman living in New York and her three friends, Didi, Roger and Elliot. The general premise of the series centers around Annie's search for romance. Most of the action takes place in either Annie's small apartment or the Employment Agency she manages. Roger and Elliot work with her at the agency and Didi, the semi free spirit of the group, often drops by the agency or Annie's apartment.

Cancellation

The series was canceled after one season despite having an average household rating of 11.4, tying it for 24th place among all TV shows that year.
