Buyō

Buyō (舞踊) or Nippon buyō/Nihon buyō (日本舞踊) is a traditional Japanese performing art, a mixture of dance and pantomime, which emerged in the early Edo period (early 17th century) from earlier traditions. While performed independently by specialists, it is particularly conspicuous as the style of dancing performed by geisha.

Influences

Nihon buyō differs from other Japanese traditional dances in that it is intended for entertainment on stage. Nihon buyō is a refined dance that has been improved throughout four centuries. There are four influences on Nihon buyō, the most significant being kabuki buyō. Nihon buyō was created directly from kabuki buyō before it became theater. The second influence on Nihon buyō is noh. Nihon buyō takes a few key elements from noh such as the circular movements and the tools used in its dances. The third influence on these dances comes from folk dances; the spinning and jumping used in folk dances was incorporated into Nihon buyō. The last influence comes from the mixture of European and American culture that is found in Japan today.

Buy

Buy may refer to:

  • Trade, exchange of goods (including money) and services
  • BUY (Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport), Burlington, North Carolina
  • Buy.com, a shopping website
  • Buy (album), a 1979 album by James White and the Contortions
  • Buy River, a river in Perm Krai and the republics of Bashkortostan and Udmurtia in Russia
  • Buy (inhabited locality), name of several inhabited localities in Russia
  • Buy, Kostroma Oblast

Buy (Russian: Буй) is a town in Kostroma Oblast, Russia, which stands on the Kostroma River. Population: 25,763(2010 Census); 27,392(2002 Census); 32,701(1989 Census).

    History

Buy was originally a trading post and protected by a hill fortress of Finno-Ugrian Meri people c. 400–500 CE. Its original Meri name is not known, but in Finnish language it was called either Vuoksensuu or Vieksansuu (lit. Mouth of Vuoksi/Vieksa). It was inhabited by the Finno-Ugrian peoples at least up to the Mongol invasion of Russia in 1237–1238. During the Mongol threat, some inhabitants of Kostroma sought refuge in Buy, and it seems that they renamed the place Buy (Vui, Bui) instead of using the Finno-Ugrian name which was difficult for them to pronounce, but the origin of the Russian name comes from the old Meri name.

Modern Buy was founded in 1536 as a fortified point at the confluence of the Kostroma and the Vyoksa Rivers. The fortified point was built according to the order of Yelena Glinskaya, the regentess of Russia at that time and the mother of Ivan the Terrible, to defend the eastern frontiers of the Grand Duchy of Moscow from the raids by Kazan Tatars and others. However, twenty years after its construction, the fortress lost its military significance, as Kazan was taken and the raids ceased.

    Everything (Michael Bublé song)

"Everything" is a song recorded by Canadian singer Michael Bublé, and released as the lead single from his third major-label studio album, Call Me Irresponsible.

    Background

Bublé wrote the lyrics of "Everything" for his then girlfriend Emily Blunt. He later explained: "I wrote the song about the great happiness of real love, but at the same time I was making a statement about the world. We’re living in really crazy times, and I wanted to say that no matter what’s happening, this person in my life is what really makes it worthwhile." Unlike Bublé's other work, this song strays away from being big band oriented, carrying some elements of pop and rock. It is completely devoid of a horn section, as well as being guitar driven. A piano and an acoustic guitar carry the main melody of the song, with electric guitars audible in the chorus. Bublé's vocal arrangement is also different from his previous material; his voice often makes big interval changes in most of his material, but his voice in this particular song is projected smoothly without going into loud intervals. It is comparable to his previous hit single, "Home", from the album It's Time.

    Everything (P-Money song)

"Everything" is a single released by New Zealand music producer P-Money. It features vocals by Vince Harder. It Was released to the UK market on 7 September 2009 on 3 Beat Blue.

    Release and chart performance

The single was released in New Zealand in September 2008 debuting at #40 on the RIANZ New Zealand Singles Chart, and peaked at #1 on 13 October. Vince Harder, the vocalist of the song, is known for portraying the lead role of Simba in the Australian version of The Lion King stage production.

The song was certified Gold in New Zealand with sales of 7,500+ after eight weeks and has currently spent 23 weeks on the chart.

    Music video

The music video was directed by Rebecca Gin and P-Money and was produced by Fish 'N' Clips.

The concept was that having music around is like having a 'shoulder buddy', and he feels like he has a friend, even if his real-life relationship failed to blossom. Unfortunately, his music player was stolen, taking his shoulder buddy away from him, and leaving P-Money alone in the middle of the alley with only his unplugged headphones on.
