You Are There is an American historical educational television and radio series broadcast over the CBS Radio and CBS Television networks.

    Radio

Created by Goodman Ace for CBS Radio, it blended history with modern technology, taking an entire network newsroom on a figurative time warp each week reporting the great events of the past. Reporters included John Charles Daly, Don Hollenbeck and Richard C. Hottelet. The series was first heard on July 7, 1947 under the title CBS Is There. Its final broadcast was on March 19, 1950 under the title You Are There.

According to author/historian Martin Grams, actor Canada Lee was a guest in episodes 32 and 60. Martin Gabel appeared in character in episode 82. The first 23 broadcasts went under the title CBS Is There and beginning with episode 24, the title changed to You Are There. A total of 90 episodes were broadcast. Only 75 episodes are known to exist in recorded form.

    Television

The radio program made a transition to television in 1953, with Walter Cronkite as the regular host. Reporters included veteran radio announcers Dick Joy and Harlow Wilcox. The first telecast took place on February 1, 1953 and featured a re-enactment of the Hindenburg disaster. The final telecast took place on October 13, 1957.

  • You Are (Lionel Richie song)

"You Are" is the title of a popular song from 1983 by the singer-songwriter Lionel Richie. "You Are" was written by Richie and his then-wife, Brenda Harvey Richie. It appears on his self-titled debut solo album, which came out in 1982. Resuming where he left off with D-flat major tunes with Commodores' "Sail On", "Still" and "Truly".

Released as the follow-up single to his number-one hit song "Truly", "You Are" reached the top five on three major Billboard music charts. On the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart, the song spent two weeks at number four in early 1983. It peaked at number two on the R&B chart and spent six weeks at number one on the adult contemporary chart. In the United Kingdom, the song reached number 43 on the British pop chart.

"You Are" is a romantic song, although with a more upbeat arrangement than many of Richie's slower ballads, including a horn section. Before achieving popularity for his own music, singer Richard Marx was a studio musician who can be heard singing backing vocals on "You Are" as well as other songs from Richie's debut album. Kenny Rogers and Jimmy Connors are also heard on backing vocals.

    Hey yeah yeah
    Oh oh oh
You are there, You are there (You are there)
You are there, You are there (You are there)
Where can I go (where can I go)
From Your spirit Lord (from Your spirit Lord)
Any place that I choose to go, You’re already there (You’re already there)
You will not go (You will not go) from my presence Lord (from my presence Lord)
Before I rise on the wings of dawn (rise on the wings)
If I settle by the sea (settling down)
I can know Your hand is always there to guide me (You are there)
    Chorus:
I know You’re there (You are there – oh) You are there
You are there (You are there – oh) You are there
Where can I go (where can I go) from Your spirit Lord (from Your spirit Lord)
When trouble is in my way You’re already there (You’re already there)
You will not go (You will not go) from my presence Lord (from my presence Lord)
Before a word of mine is said
If in the depths I lay my head
In the shadow of Your wings, You’re there to hide me
Chorus 2x: I know You’re there (You are there – oh) You are there
You are there (You are there – oh)
I know (You are there – oh) You are there
You are there (You are there – oh) I know
    Bridge:
    You are always watching me
You always have Your mind on me (always have Your mind on me)
You will never let me go (You will never, never, no, no, no)
Father I have come to know that
Through the night and through the day, You will lead me in Your way (You will lead me)
No matter what I say or do, You are there
In a dry and weary land where is no water, all that I know that You are there
    Chorus:
You are there – oh, I know that You’re there
You are there, You are there, I know (always, always, always)
Always be there for me (I know that You’re there)
(You are there – oh), I know that You’re
(You are always watching me, always have Your mind on me)
In the morning, in the evening times
When I lay my head down to sleep at night (You will never let me go, Father I have come to know)
I know You’ll be there in the morning light (you are there – oh)
I know (You are always watching me, always have Your mind on me)
    (You are there – oh)
