XLR-12

XLR-12 is an indole-based synthetic cannabinoid drug that was invented by Abbott Laboratories in 2006. It is an analogue of XLR-11 where the 5-fluoropentyl chain has been replaced with a 4,4,4-trifluorobutyl chain. XLR-12 is relatively highly selective for the CB₂ receptor, with a K_i of 0.09 nM and 167x selectivity over the related CB₁ receptor, however it still retains appreciable affinity for CB₁ with a K_i of 15 nM.

Microsoft Works

Microsoft Works is a discontinued office suite developed by Microsoft. Works was smaller, was less expensive, and has fewer features than Microsoft Office or other major office suites. Its core functionality includes a word processor, a spreadsheet and a database management system. Later versions have a calendar application and a dictionary while older releases included a terminal emulator. Works was available as a standalone program, and as part of a namesake home productivity suite. Because of its low cost ($40 retail, as low as $2 OEM), companies frequently pre-installed Works on their low cost machines.

History

Microsoft Works originated as MouseWorks, an integrated spreadsheet, word processor and database program, designed for the Macintosh by ex-Apple employee Don Williams and Rupert Lissner. Williams was planning to emulate the success of AppleWorks, a similar product for Apple II computers. However, Bill Gates and his Head of Acquisitions, Alan M. Boyd, convinced Williams to license the product to Microsoft instead. Initially it was to be a scaled-down version of Office for the (then) small laptops such as the Radio Shack TRS-80 Model 100 which Microsoft was developing. As laptops grew in power, however, Microsoft Works, as it was to be called, evolved as a popular product in its own right.

XLR81

The Bell Aerosystems Company XLR81 (Model 8096) was an American liquid-propellant rocket engine, which was used on the Agena upper stage. It burned UDMH and RFNA fed by a turbopump in a fuel rich gas generator cycle. The turbopump had a single turbine with a gearbox to transmit power to the oxidizer and fuel pumps. The thrust chamber was all-aluminum, and regeneratively cooled by oxidizer flowing through gun-drilled passages in the combustion chamber and throat walls. The nozzle was a titanium radiatively cooled extension. The engine was mounted on an hydraulic actuated gimbal which enabled it thrust vectoring to control pitch and yaw. Engine thrust and mixture ratio were controlled by cavitating flow venturis on the gas generator flow circuit. Engine start was achieved by solid propellant start cartridge.

Variants

Starting as an air-launched missile engine and finishing as a multi mission general propulsion for the space age, the basic design went through a series of iterations and versions that enabled it to have a long and productive career.
