Status effect

In role-playing games, a status effect is a temporary modification to a game character’s original set of stats that usually comes into play when special powers and abilities (such as spells) are used, often during combat. It appears in numerous computer and video games of many genres, most commonly in role-playing video games. The term status effect can be applied both to changes that provide a character an advantage (increased attributes, defensive barriers, regeneration), and those that hinder the character (decreased attributes, incapacitation, degeneration). Especially in MMORPGs, beneficial effects are referred to as buffs, and hindering effects are called debuffs.

Acquiring and removing status effects

A status effect in the abstract is a persistent consequence of a certain in-game event or action, and as such innumerable variants exist across the gaming field. Status effects may result from one character performing a certain type of attack on another. Players may acquire status effects by consuming items, casting spells on themselves or each other, activating devices in the world, interacting with NPCs, or remaining in a particular location. Some games offer permanent status effects which persist for an entire level and act as modifications to the game's native difficulty.

Wound

A wound is a type of injury which happens relatively quickly in which skin is torn, cut, or punctured (an open wound), or where blunt force trauma causes a contusion (a closed wound). In pathology, it specifically refers to a sharp injury which damages the dermis of the skin.

Wounds is the third full length release by American blackened death metal band The Funeral Pyre. It was released on May 27, 2008.

Unlike their earlier works, this album features no keyboards, instead replacing long time keyboard player, Daniella Jones, with guitarist Justin Garcia. According to the band's official web page, "We did 2 records with keyboards. We loved doing those records with keyboards. Things eventually started to not work out between both parties." However, near the end of their first tour of this album, Garcia, too, left the band, and was replaced by Lanny Perelman, formally a member of Cerberus.

The musical qualities are different from their first two albums. Many of the death metal elements were removed from this album and has been considered a loss for the band. However, the band's work on Wounds was praised for the songwriting and musicianship value of the album.

Guest vocals on the title track, "Wounds", were provided by Makh Daniels of the band Early Graves.
