Working for the Weekend

"Working for the Weekend" is a song by Canadian rock band Loverboy from their second studio album Get Lucky (1981). It was written by guitarist Paul Dean, vocalist Mike Reno, and drummer Matt Frenette, and produced by Dean and Bruce Fairbairn, and released as the lead single from the album in October 1981. The song contains more of a pop feel than the other songs that the band produced, but this new sound proved to generate success, as the song reached No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, and No. 2 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart in the United States in January 1982.

Background

The song originated when guitarist Paul Dean was out walking one Wednesday afternoon, looking for inspiration in his songwriting. He noticed that much of the area was deserted, as most people were at work. "So I'm out on the beach and wondering, 'Where is everybody? Well, I guess they're all waiting for the weekend,'" he later said. Mike Reno, the band's vocalist, suggested they change the title to "Working for the Weekend". According to Dean, he first began writing the song in a hotel room following a Montreal concert. At the time, the band were still playing bars to little response from patrons. After completing the song, they used it to open one set, and Dean recalled that "the dance floor was packed."

Degrassi: The Next Generation is a Canadian serial teen drama television series. This season depicts the lives of high school juniors, seniors and college freshman as they deal with the some of the challenges and issues young adults face such as imprisonment, online predators, burglary, substance abuse, stress, gambling addiction, financial difficulties, school rivalries, pregnancy scares and death. Unlike the previous seasons, which took place over the course of an entire school year, season six only covers the first semester of the school year, utilizing a semi-floating timeline. It also marks the first death of a main character in the series.

Production took place between May and September 2006.

Season six also aired in the United States Fridays at 8:00 p.m. on The N, a digital cable network aimed at teenagers and young adults. The season actually premiered on The N, on 29 September 2006, two months before CTV, a Canadian terrestrial television network, began to screen it. By broadcasting two episodes every Tuesday night at 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., CTV were able to broadcast the final ten episodes of the season before The N. The season was released on DVD as a four disc boxed set on 27 May 2008 by Alliance Atlantis Home Entertainment in Canada, and FUNimation Entertainment in the United States. "The Weekend" is the seventh episode of the first season of the American psychological thriller series Homeland. It originally aired on Showtime in the United States on November 13, 2011. The episode was written by Meredith Stiehm and directed by Michael Cuesta. It features series regulars Claire Danes, Damian Lewis, Morena Baccarin, David Harewood, Diego Klattenhoff, Jackson Pace, Morgan Saylor, and Mandy Patinkin.

Homeland centers around Carrie Mathison (Danes), a CIA agent who is convinced that Nicholas Brody (Lewis), a recently rescued American Marine, has been turned by al-Qaeda. In "The Weekend", Carrie and Brody further complicate their relationship when they head to the countryside for the weekend. Jessica (Baccarin), Brody's wife, and Mike (Klattenhoff) face the fallout of the truth about their relationship. Meanwhile, Saul (Patinkin) catches Aileen on the run to Mexico.

The Weekend is a pop-rock band from London, Ontario, Canada, whose first performance was in 1998.

History

Co-founders Andrea Wasse (vocals, chief songwriter) and Link C.(synthesizer, programming) were in high school when they formed the band with Lorien Jones (bass) and Mike Clive (drums).

Mike Clive was also a member of the London group The New Grand, a pop-rock quartet who, at the time, were signed to the prestigious indize label Sonic Unyon. This association may have helped The Weekend avoid common hardships of being an independent band.

Its second performance was as an opening act for an audience of over 500 people. The Weekend quickly gained a loyal audience in the Southwestern Ontario independent music scene.

Because of the use of synthesizer in its early albums, some listeners may observe that the band had a distinct new wave feel. The addition of former Sinclaire guitarist Ryan Ford in its later album may have transformed its sound towards a harder rock edge, with the New Wave aspect in decline in favor of an ethereal, Brian Eno production style.
