Wizard of the Hood

Wizard of the Hood is the second EP by Violent J. Released in 2003, it is the Insane Clown Posse member's first solo release. The EP is a concept album based on The Wizard of Oz, which is retold in an urban setting.

Plot

Violent J takes on the role of this story's version of Dorothy, making his way through this strange new land to get back to his home. Along the way, he meets the Scarecrow (Twiztid's Monoxide), who only needs somebody to smoke with, the Tin Man (Twiztid's Jamie Madrox), who wants a "gat", and the Lion (Blaze Ya Dead Homie), who wants some "hoes". Anybody Killa has a brief cameo as a guard in the Wizard's palace as well as fellow Insane Clown Posse member Shaggy 2 Dope appears as the Wizard.

Release

The EP contains nine story tracks and two "bonus tracks". It was also released in a "Collector's Edition" tin which featured two different bonus tracks and a package of "Violent Joint" rolling paper. In a early 2014 interview Violent J said that he would like to do a Wizard Of The Hood show. During ICP's 2014 GOTJ seminar he said that it may happen very soon. On July 24, 2015 during ICP's seminar Violent J said that he would like to do a Wizard of the Hood full album set at the 2016 GOTJ if Twiztid and Blaze Ya Dead Homie are down to do it also. Violent J announced in October, 2015 that they will be performing the whole Wizard of the Hood setlist for GOTJ 17 (2016) complete with changing sets and Twiztid and Blaze Yad dead homie will be on stage to do their parts.

"Wizard of the Hood" is a song by the American hip hop duo Insane Clown Posse. It is the sixth song on their debut album Carnival of Carnage (1992).

History

"Wizard of the Hood" was originally written by Joe Bruce sometime in the late '80s. Its first appearance was on the Intelligence and Violence EP, by Violent J and D-Lyrical, under the name "Wizard of Delray." The song was recorded on a karaoke machine, like the rest of the EP, thus making it Lo-Fi and slightly distorted. It is track number three on the EP, and is the first time that Faygo was mentioned in a song by Inner City Posse

In 1991, Inner City Posse saved enough money to use a professional record studio. Along with producer Chuck Miller, Inner City Posse re-recorded "Wizard of Delray" with slightly different lyrics and a whole new beat. The song was released on the EP Dog Beats under the new title "Wizard of the Hood." The end of the track features approximately 35 seconds of Yo Mamma jokes.

In late 1991, the Inner City Posse over went a change in genre, style, and look, as well as a name change to become the Insane Clown Posse. On October 18, 1992, Insane Clown Posse's debut album Carnival of Carnage was released. Track number six, "Wizard of the Hood," was the same as the 1991 Dog Beats version except instead of Yo Mamma jokes, the end of the '92 release featured a skit of Shaggy 2 Dope reading poetry before freaking out on a bug.

The Hood (real name Parker Robbins) is a fictional character, a supervillain, and a crime boss in the Marvel Comics Universe.

Publication history

Created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artists Kyle Hotz and Eric Powell, The Hood first appeared in his own self-titled MAX limited series in 2002, which featured his origin, as a character who possesses a cloak and boots stolen from a Nisanti demon, which grant him invisibility and limited levitation ability, respectively.

The Hood next appeared in the 2006 miniseries Beyond!, a miniseries set in outer space, which had the character shift towards a slightly more anti-heroic position, as opposed to a villainous one.

Brian Michael Bendis stated in a 2007 Newsarama interview that within the pages of New Avengers, Parker Robbins would be getting similar treatment to Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II. Bendis says that "...like the Sentry and Echo—the Hood is one of these excellent brand new creations that no one else was touching, and that's how they fall by the wayside."

The name "Hood" was derived from the term "hoodlum"; Gerry Anderson also observed that the character was frequently masked, and that a mask "could be described as a 'hood'."Sylvia Anderson acknowledges that the Hood's appearances became less regular towards the end of the series (the character is absent from the six episodes of Series Two), explaining that, like Kyrano, the character "turned out to be less viable on the screen than on the page." To strengthen the character's antagonistic appearance, the Supermarionation puppet was fitted with an over-sized head and hands.

The Hood's precise origins are unknown. While it is known that he is the half-brother of Kyrano, the precise details of their relationship – such as which parent they share or which of them is the elder – remain a mystery, as does the origin of his mysterious hypnotic powers. Even his real name remains a mystery; throughout the TV series, he is only ever referred to as "Agent Seven-Nine" and "671", and each codename is used on one occasion only ("Agent Seven-Nine" when he is working for "General X", a military officer from an unspecified eastern European country, and "671" when he is working for General Bron). The name "The Hood" is only used once used in the TV episodes; at the end of the episode Edge of impact the General can be heard uttering the word Hood through the speaker of the Hood's vehicle underwater (hence why it is never mentioned in Thunderbirds books or on fan websites). Instead, the name was revealed in spin-off media and tie-in promotional materials.
