Windsor Park

The Northern Ireland National stadium is a football stadium in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is the home ground of Linfield F.C. and the Northern Ireland national football team, and is also where the Irish Cup and the Irish League Cup final is played.

History

Named after the district in south Belfast in which it is located, Windsor Park was first opened in 1905, with a match between Linfield and Glentoran. Most of the current stadium was designed and built in the 1930s, to a design made by the Scottish architect Archibald Leitch. It had one main seated stand - the Grandstand, now known as the South Stand - with "reserved" terracing in front, and a large open terrace behind the goal to the west called the Spion Kop. To the north, there was a long covered terrace - the "unreserved" terracing - and behind the eastern goal at the Railway End another covered terrace. Windsor Park's peak capacity in this format was 60,000. In the early 1960s, the seated Railway Stand was built at the Railway End, and in the early 1970s a social club and viewing lounge was constructed in the corner between the Railway Stand and the Grandstand. In the 1980s, the 'unreserved terrace' was demolished and replaced by a two-tier, 7000-seat North Stand. In the late 1990s, the Kop terrace was demolished and replaced with the 5000-seater Kop Stand. The Kop Stand was known as the Alex Russell Stand from 2004-2008 in honour of Linfield's former goalkeeper and coach and one-time Northern Ireland international, but reverted to being named 'The Kop Stand' following this.

Windsor Park (Metra station)

75th Street-Windsor Park is a station on the South Chicago Branch of the Metra Electric District Line. It is located at 75th Street in the median of Exchange Avenue and is 10.88 miles (17.51 km) away from the northern terminus at Randolph Street Station. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Windsor Park Station is in Zone B.

Part of 75th Street-Windsor Park station's name is also shared with another 75th Street Metra Electric station at Grand Crossing on the main branch. Parking is available along northbound Exchange Avenue between 75th Place and 75th Street and along both sides of Saginaw Avenue, south of southbound Exchange Avenue. The station was recently renovated in 2008.

Windsor Park (Dominica)

Windsor Park is a multi-purpose stadium in Roseau, Dominica. It serves as the national stadium and is used mostly for cricket matches. Other uses have included the World Creole Music Festival, the Finals of the Calypso Competition and the Miss Dominica pageant.

The stadium is of International Cricket Council (ICC) international standard with facilities featuring 12,000 seats, private boxes, a media centre, practice nets, a players' complex, digital score boards and five cricket pitches.

History

The ground was named after Windsor, England and is situated on the eastern side of Roseau. It was levelled out of a rubbish dump previously known as Cow Town. It was a popular venue for sports of all kinds, carnival activities, horse and donkey racing, State parades and played a central role in island life. In 1999 a national stadium was planned for the site, but after demolishing all of the existing stands and adjoining buildings, including a former school that had once been wards of the Roseau Hospital, the project was abandoned and the site was deserted until 2005.

Windsor Park, Edmonton

Windsor Park is a south central neighbourhood in the City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is located immediately to the west of the University of Alberta north campus and overlooking the North Saskatchewan River valley to the north, west, and south west. It shares a short boundary with the neighbourhood of Belgravia to the south.

One of the benefits to residents comes from the neighbourhood's central location with easy access to other parts of the city provided by roads and by LRT stations located on the University of Alberta campus.

Groat Road leads into the river valley and to Hawrelak Park and Emily Murphy Park, both located in the river valley immediately below the neighbourhood. Groat Road and Groat Bridge give residents access to destinations on the north side, including downtown Edmonton, Westmount Centre, and Telus World of Science.

University Avenue and 87 Avenue both take residents to Whyte Avenue, and Old Strathcona.

The main artery south from the university area, 114 Street, gives access to Southgate Centre and Whitemud Drive. Whitemud Drive gives residents another way to reach the north side, with this one providing good access to West Edmonton Mall.
