Orleans (band)

Orleans is an American pop-rock band best known for its hits "Dance with Me" (1975), "Still the One", from the album Waking and Dreaming (1976) and "Love Takes Time" (1979). The group's name evolved from the music it was playing at the time of their formation, which was inspired by Louisiana artists such as Allen Toussaint and the Neville Brothers. Orleans was formed in Woodstock, New York in January 1972 by vocalist/guitarist/songwriter John Hall, vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Larry Hoppen and drummer/percussionist Wells Kelly. In October of that year, the group expanded to include Larry's younger brother, Lance, on bass. Drummer Jerry Marotta joined in 1976, completing the quintet.

History

Early days: from a trio to a quartet

Drummer Wells Kelly (son of Cornell's Dean of Architecture, Burnham Kelly) first met John Hall, an in-demand session player and member of the group Kangaroo, in the late 60s when he played with him in a group called Thunderfrog and later played on John's first solo album, Action, released in 1970.

Duke of Orléans

Duke of Orléans (French: Duc d'Orléans) was a title reserved for French royalty, first created during the 14th century. Known as princes of the blood (princes du sang), the title of Duke of Orléans was given, when available, to the oldest brother of the king. Thus, they formed a collateral line of the French royal family, with an eventual right to succeed to the throne should more senior princes of the blood die out.

During the period of the ancien régime the holder of the title often assumed a political role. The Orléans branch of the House of Valois came to the throne with Louis XII (15th century). Louis Philippe II, fifth Duke of Orléans, contributed to the destruction of the ancient regime. At the head of a retrospectively named 'Orleanist' faction centred on the Palais Royal, he contested the authority of his cousin Louis XVI in the adjacent Louvre. His son would eventually ascend the throne in 1830 following the July Revolution as Louis-Philippe I, King of the French. The descendants of the family are the Orléanist pretenders to the French throne, and the title has been used by several members of the House. The holder of the title held the style of Serene Highness.

Orleans (TV series)

Orleans is an American drama series that aired on CBS from January 7, 1997 through April 10, 1997. It ran for 8 episodes. The series was said to be inspired by the experiences of creator/producer Toni Graphia, who was the daughter of a Louisiana judge.

Synopsis

The show was centered on the character of Judge Luther Charbonnet, portrayed by Larry Hagman. He was a judge seated in New Orleans and had a family that consisted of some wildly different characters. One of the sons was an assistant district attorney, another son was a police officer, and a daughter who ran a casino. An overall backstory to the series was that Judge Luther had another daughter who was missing or had been dead for years, and he had a search going on for information on her. Several "taboo" subjects were touched on this series, including interracial relationships (Judge Luther had a black girlfriend) and incest (the daughter had a relationship with her cousin).

The show was promoted heavily before it had aired, and originally had the old timeslot that Dallas did during its run. However, the ratings were not great, and it was quickly moved to Friday nights.

Wind Mobile

Wind Mobile is a Canadian wireless telecommunications provider operated by Globalive. It was one of several new mobile carriers launched in Canada after a government initiative to encourage competition in the wireless sector, alongside Mobilicity (later acquired by Rogers Communications) and Public Mobile (later acquired by Telus). With 940,000 active subscribers, Wind is Canada's fourth-largest mobile operator.

Wind initially launched mobile data and voice services in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, Ontario on December 16, 2009 and two days later in Calgary, Alberta. Since then, Southern Ontario has been the main target of network expansion: first with Ottawa in Q1 2011, and then with about half a dozen additional regions, the most recent being Brantford on July 3, 2014. In Western Canada, coverage was added to Edmonton, Alberta and has expanded around Edmonton to include Sherwood Park, Fort Saskatchewan, St. Albert and Edmonton International Airport; additionally, British Columbia was also added for most of Greater Vancouver area plus Abbotsford and Whistler.

WIND Hellas

WIND Hellas, formerly STET Hellas, is an integrated telecommunications provider with headquarters in Athens, Greece. WIND is the 3rd largest mobile operator in Greece (after Cosmote and Vodafone) with more than 4.4 million active subscribers (September 2010).

Background

Origins

STET Hellas originated in 1992 with the establishment of TELESTET, a subsidiary of the Italian company STET, now Telecom Italia. On September 30, 1992 the Greek Ministry of Transport and Communications issued a license to STET to create a national mobile telephony services network (GSM). The company invested the sum of 30 billion drachmas (about 88 million Euros) to create the network. This constituted one of the biggest investments in Greece since the end of the Second World War. Commercial operation started on June 29, 1993 when the first call from a mobile phone took place in the country.

In 1998 TELESTET was the first Greek mobile telephony company to be listed in international stock markets, the NASDAQ in New York City and the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.

Wind: A Breath of Heart

Wind: A Breath of Heart is a visual novel by Japanese game studio Minori. It was first released for the PC on April 19, 2002 with adult content. It was later ported to the Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 by Alchemist in 2003 with the adult content removed. It features voiced dialog for all characters except for the protagonist. It has been adapted into an anime series with thirteen episodes and four special ones (9.5, 10.4, 10.8 and 12.5), four OVAs, and a manga. An English-language fan translation of the visual novel exists.

History

The PC version of the game went on sale on April 19, 2002. It was followed by the Soyokaze no Okurimono -Wind Pleasurable Box- on December 27, 2002 which featured a 16-minute OVA Christmas Special along with the game. In 2003, the game was released in two different versions with the Dreamcast version going on sale on January 30 and the PlayStation 2 version on December 18. June 2004 saw the first of 3 KSS OVA's go on sale on the 25th and on the 30th, the anime TV series officially started to air. On November 5 of the same year, Wind - a breath of heart - Re:gratitude went on sale.
