William (marcha orientalis)

William (II) was the margrave (comes terminalis, "frontier count") of the March of Pannonia in the mid ninth century until his death on campaign against the Moravians in 871. In his day, the march orientalis corresponded to a front along the Danube from the Traungau to Szombathely and the Rába river and including the Vienna basin. It was a military frontier zone against Avaria.

William co-ruled the march with his brother Engelschalk I and both died on the same campaign. They were replaced by Aribo, but Engelschalk's son Engelschalk II led their heirs in rebellion against Aribo in what became known as the Wilhelminer War from 882 to 884. The "Wilhelminers" were descendants of William's father, William I.

William (archbishop of Mainz)

William (929 – 2 March 968) was Archbishop of Mainz from 17 December 954 until his death. He was the son of the Emperor Otto I the Great and a Slav mother.

On 17 December 954, he was appointed to the archbishopric of Mainz following the death of the rebellious former archbishop Frederick. William received confirmation from Pope Agapetus II and also the title of Apostolic Vicar of Germany, a title which made the archbishops of Mainz the pope's deputies in Germany and granted the archdiocese of Mainz the title of Holy See. From his father William also received the title of "Arch-Chaplain of the Empire."

William died at Rottleberode in 968 and was buried in St. Alban's Abbey, Mainz.

History and profile

Lombard was started in 1987. The magazine is part of Class Pubblicità S.p.A, a subsidiary of the Class Editori Group. Paolo Panerai is the editor and head of the publisher of the magazine, Lombard Editori SRL. The magazine is based in Milan and is published bimonthly. It is distributed to subscribers.

Frequent topics covered by Lombard are privatization, financial markets, products and services, private banking, private equity, insurance and real estate. The target audience of the magazine include entrepreneurs, managers, finance analysts and professionals working at firms, banks, financial companies and other institutions in Italy and in other countries.

Lombard language

Lombard (lumbaart, or lengua lumbarda, in milanese classical ortography "lengua lombarda") is a member of the Cisalpine or Gallo-Italic group within the Romance languages. It is spoken natively in Northern Italy (most of Lombardy and some areas of neighbouring regions, notably the eastern side of Piedmont) and Southern Switzerland (Ticino and Graubünden).

The two main varieties (Western Lombard dialect and Eastern Lombard dialect) show differences and are often, but not always, mutually comprehensible.

Present situation

Status

Lombard is considered a minority language, structurally separated from Italian, by the Ethnologue reference catalogue and by the UNESCO Red Book on Endangered Languages. However, Italy and Switzerland do not recognize Lombard speakers as a linguistic minority. This official line is the same as for most other minority languages in Italy, which are normally considered Italian dialects in spite of the fact that they belong to different sub-groups of the Romance language family, and in their historical development are in no way derivative of Italian (this fact being obscured to some extent by the use of Italian orthography to write these languages, and by influence from Italian).
