William (archbishop of Mainz)

William (929 – 2 March 968) was Archbishop of Mainz from 17 December 954 until his death. He was the son of the Emperor Otto I the Great and a Slav mother.

On 17 December 954, he was appointed to the archbishopric of Mainz following the death of the rebellious former archbishop Frederick. William received confirmation from Pope Agapetus II and also the title of Apostolic Vicar of Germany, a title which made the archbishops of Mainz the pope's deputies in Germany and granted the archdiocese of Mainz the title of Holy See. From his father William also received the title of "Arch-Chaplain of the Empire."

William died at Rottleberode in 968 and was buried in St. Alban's Abbey, Mainz.

William (TV series)

William was a BBC television series based on the Just William series of books written by Richmal Crompton. It ran for two series from 1962 to 1963. 12 episodes were made in all, each of half an hour long. It was filmed in black and white.

Lander (spacecraft)

A lander is a spacecraft which descends toward and comes to rest on the surface of an astronomical body. Lander means the soft landing after that probe stays active while impact probe (as a rule, preceding the lander) just achieves the surface by hard landing with crush.

For bodies with atmospheres, the landing occurs after atmospheric re-entry (or less precisely for other planets, atmospheric reentry) and the lander is first a re-entry vehicle. In these cases landers may employ parachutes to slow down and to maintain a low terminal velocity. Sometimes small landing rockets are fired just before impact to reduce the impact velocity. Landing may be accomplished by controlled descent and setdown on landing gear, with the possible addition of a post-landing attachment mechanism for celestial bodies with low gravity. Some missions (since, as example, Luna 9 and Mars Pathfinder) used inflatable airbags to cushion the lander's impact rather than a more traditional landing gear.

Lander (Transformers)

Lander is the name of a fictional character in the various Transformers universes.

Transformers: Generation 1

As a ground tank, Lander can reach speeds exceeding 400 km/h. In his human guise he is an automovive planner from New York. He is skilled at land attacks and is the physically strongest Autobot Pretender. His opposite number if the Decepticon Pretender Dauros.

Animated series

In Transformers: Super-God Masterforce series Lander was one of the Autobot Pretenders under Metalhawk. Lander was depicted as being able to drive over water and sideways on buildings. In robot mode his left hand could retract and launch knock-out gas.

Lander is very well adapted to his life as a human, and seems to enjoy fitting in as one. He wears glasses, even though he probably doesn't need them, collects wine, goes on dates to concerts, and seems to revel in being a human more than any other Pretender.

In the Transformers: Zone animation Lander was seen among other high-ranking Autobots (such as Road Caesar, Grand Maximus, Metalhawk, Landcross, and the Autobot Godmasters) when Dai Atlas is sworn-in by Victory Saber as the new Supreme Commander of the Autobot forces.

Balance (Kim-Lian album)

Balance is the debut album of the Dutch singer Kim-Lian. It was released on 25 May 2004 in the Netherlands. Kim-Lian said the album to be "a fun pop/rock album". The album spawned four top 20 singles, being "Teenage Superstar", "Hey Boy", "Garden of Love" and Kim Wilde cover "Kids in America".

Balance (puzzle)

A balance puzzle is a mathematical puzzle which challenges the solver to distribute a subset of numbers so that the several sides of a stylized diagram representing a balance scale are equal. The balance puzzle is a classical number puzzle in the World Puzzle Championship. It consists in a mobile or tree structure, with designated positions where the player must hang specified weights, so that everything balances. See examples below.

There are usually 8 to 12 consecutive numbers (weights) to place, which makes it much smaller than, for example, sudoku.

As in many mathematical puzzles, the solution is unique. Expert puzzlers often prefer puzzles where the rules explicitly states that there is only one solution. This property allows for some reasoning strategies. It also makes generating puzzles a bit more difficult.
