Will Houston

Will Houston (born 19 July 1968), often credited as William Houston, is a British actor. Born in Sussex, he grew up in Northern Ireland.

Early life and career

Trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama, Houston has played many leading classical stage roles, including Troilus in Troilus and Cressida, Prince Hal in both parts of Henry IV and the title roles in Henry V (for which he was nominated for an Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Actor), Ben Jonson's Sejanus, and Coriolanus, all for the Royal Shakespeare Company; Pentheus/Agave in Sir Peter Hall's production of Euripides' Bacchai at the National Theatre. He replaced Iain Glen in the lead role in Fortune's Fool at the Old Vic from January 2014. Between May and July 2014 he played Titus in Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus directed by Lucy Bailey at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

In April 2009 he appeared in "Cause and Effect", the second episode of the third series of Robin Hood. He also played the character of Boucher in the BBC's adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's 'North and South' with Daniela Denby-Ashe and Richard Armitage. He appears in the BBC series of Casualty 1909 and 1907, as Dr Millias Culpin.

Will Houston (rugby referee)

Will Houston (born 25 May 1988) is an Australian professional rugby union referee. He was appointed to the referees panel for Super Rugby in 2016.

Houston took up rugby refereeing as a high school student at Shore in Sydney, and continued refereeing at senior club level while studying law at the University of New South Wales. After graduating in 2011, he was a first grade referee in the Shute Shield competition, including an appointment as an assistant referee for the 2012 grand final. Houston officiated in Super Rugby as an assistant referee in 2012.

In 2013, he went to the Sanix World Youth Tournament in Japan, where he refereed the final between Saint Kentigern and Hartpury College. Houston also officiated at the Darwin Hottest Sevens tournament. He refereed the final of the inaugural World Club Championship 10s in Singapore in 2014, where the Auckland Blues defeated the ACT Brumbies after double extra time to win the title.

For Australia's National Rugby Championship, Houston was appointed to semi-final matches in Melbourne and Canberra in 2014 and 2015 respectively. He refereed the final of the 2015 World Rugby U20s and later that year refereed in New Zealand's ITM Cup. He was in charge of the Shute Shield grand final in 2015. Houston joined the Super Rugby referees panel for the 2016 season.

Houston (ⁱ/ˈhjuːstən/ HYOO-stən) is the most populous city in Texas and the fourth most populous city in the United States. With a census-estimated 2014 population of 2.239 million people, within a land area of 599.6 square miles (1,553 km²), it also is the largest city in the Southern United States, as well as the seat of Harris County. It is the principal city of Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land, which is the fifth most populated metropolitan area in the United States.

Houston was founded in 1836 on land near the banks of Buffalo Bayou (now known as Allen's Landing) and incorporated as a city on June 5, 1837. The city was named after former General Sam Houston, who was president of the Republic of Texas and had commanded and won at the Battle of San Jacinto 25 miles (40 km) east of where the city was established. The burgeoning port and railroad industry, combined with oil discovery in 1901, has induced continual surges in the city's population. In the mid-twentieth century, Houston became the home of the Texas Medical Center—the world's largest concentration of healthcare and research institutions—and NASA's Johnson Space Center, where the Mission Control Center is located.

History

The present Houston station, which opened on October 26, 1959, was built by the Southern Pacific Railroad to replace Grand Central Station, which was just east of the present station. That station operated from September 1, 1934 until the property was sold to the U.S. Government in 1959 to become the site of the Houston main post office. Grand Central Station had replaced the original Houston & Texas Central depot of 1886. When Amtrak was created it was one of two stations in Houston that served Amtrak trains, the other being Union Station, now part of Minute Maid Park. All Amtrak trains moved to Southern Pacific Station by the end of July 1974, and all trains were canceled or rerouted out of Houston except the Sunset Limited. This station continued to be owned and operated by the Southern Pacific Railroad after the creation of Amtrak, and has been owned and operated by the Union Pacific Railroad since the merger of Southern Pacific and Union Pacific.

"Houston (Means I'm One Day Closer to You)" is a song written by Larry Gatlin and recorded by American country music group Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers Band. It was released in September 1983 as the first single from the album "Greatest Hits Vol. II" then included to first track of "Not Guilty" (1984). "Houston (Means I'm One Day Closer to You)" was the group's third and last number one on the country chart. The single went to number one for two weeks and spent a total of fifteen weeks on the country chart.
