Flickr

Flickr (pronounced "flicker") is an image hosting and video hosting website, and web services suite that was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and acquired by Yahoo in 2005. In addition to being a popular website for users to share and embed personal photographs, and effectively an online community, the service is widely used by photo researchers and by bloggers to host images that they embed in blogs and social media.

The Verge reported in March 2013 that Flickr had a total of 87 million registered members and more than 3.5 million new images uploaded daily. In August 2011 the site reported that it was hosting more than 6 billion images and this number continues to grow steadily according to reporting sources. Photos and videos can be accessed from Flickr without the need to register an account but an account must be made in order to upload content onto the website. Registering an account also allows users to create a profile page containing photos and videos that the user has uploaded and also grants the ability to add another Flickr user as a contact. For mobile users, Flickr has official mobile apps for iOS,Android, and PlayStation Vita, operating systems, and an optimised mobile website.

Flicker (American Horror Story)

"Flicker" is the seventh episode of the fifth season of the anthology television series American Horror Story. It aired on November 18, 2015 on the cable network FX.

Plot

Whilst renovating Hotel Cortez, two workmen find a sealed corridor. On Will Drake's (Cheyenne Jackson) orders, they break through the seal and discover two ghoulish creatures who attack and bite out their throats. John Lowe (Wes Bentley) is undergoing evaluation at the West Los Angeles Health Center. Secretly he came there after seeing the hospital's name in one of the Ten Commandments Killer's case files. Elizabeth (Lady Gaga) and Iris (Kathy Bates) remark on the unsealed corridor, and Iris notices how scared the former is. Marcy (Christine Estabrook) checks in. In room, she opens the door thinking it to be room service when the two ghouls attack and kill her.

In 1925 Hollywood, Elizabeth admires the actor Rudolph Valentino (Finn Wittrock). He invites her for dinner which is interrupted by his wife Natacha Rambova (Alexandra Daddario). They explain that their divorce was a "show" and seduce Elizabeth. Hotel Cortez opens for business with James March (Evan Peters) hosting a party. There, Elizabeth comes to know that Valentino has died, then she tries to commit suicide but March saves her. Since his death, Elizabeth continues visiting Valentino's tomb. One day, after she and March marry, she finds him alive there with Natacha. Valentino relates a story during his The Son of the Sheik press tour. He met F. W. Murnau, director of the vampire film, Nosferatu, who offered him immortality, but on condition of public death. Valentino and Natacha turn Elizabeth while her March watches from afar.

Flicker (film)

FLicKeR is a Canadian documentary film written and directed by Nik Sheehan, produced by Maureen Judge and Silva Basmajian (NFB). The film is based on the book Chapel of Extreme Experience by John G. Geiger about the work of artist Brion Gysin and his Dreamachine.

Gysin's Dreamachine used a 100-watt light bulb, a motor, and a rotating cylinder with cutouts. Its users would sit in front of it, close their eyes, and experience visions as a result of the flashes of light. Gysin believed that by offering the world a drugless high the invention could revolutionize human consciousness.

The documentary features interviews with many prominent figures from the beat movement who had experimented with Gysin's invention and discuss his life and ideas in the film. Notable figures include Marianne Faithfull, DJ Spooky, The Stooges, Iggy Pop, Lee Ranaldo, Genesis P-Orridge, John Giorno, Floria Sigismondi, and Kenneth Anger.

The film premiered in Toronto in 2008 at the international documentary film festival Hot Docs and received the festival's Special Jury Prize for the best Canadian Feature Length Documentary. It then went on to win in the Best Film on International Art category at the 2009 Era New Horizons Film Festival in Poland, and was also nominated for a 2009 Gemini Award in the category of Best Performing Arts Program or Series or Arts Documentary Program or Series, and best original score by composer Edmund Eagan.Nik Sheehan was also nominated for a Canadian screenwriting award by the Writers Guild of Canada.

Wildflower

A wildflower (or wild flower) is a flower that grows in the wild, meaning it was not intentionally seeded or planted. Yet "wildflower" meadows of a few mixed species are sold in seed packets. The term implies that the plant probably is neither a hybrid nor a selected cultivar that is in any way different from the way it appears in the wild as a native plant, even if it is growing where it would not naturally. The term can refer to the flowering plant as a whole, even when not in bloom, and not just the flower.

"Wildflower" is not an exact term. Terms like native species (naturally occurring in the area, see flora), exotic or, better, introduced species (not naturally occurring in the area), of which some are labelled invasive species (that out-compete other plants – whether native or not), imported (introduced to an area whether deliberately or accidentally) and naturalized (introduced to an area, but now considered by the public as native) are much more accurate.

In the United Kingdom, the organisation Plantlife International instituted the "County Flowers scheme" in 2002, for which members of the public nominated and voted for a wild flower emblem for their county. The aim was to spread awareness of the heritage of native species and about the need for conservation, as some of these species are endangered. For example, Somerset has adopted the Cheddar Pink (Dianthus gratianopolitanus), London the Rosebay Willowherb (Chamerion angustifolium) and Denbighshire/Sir Ddinbych in Wales the rare Limestone Woundwort (Stachys alpina).

Wildflower (Superfly song)

"Wildflower" is a song by Japanese musical act Superfly. Used as the theme song for the drama Gold, it was released as a single on September 1, 2010. The single release was packaged as "Wildflower" & Cover Songs: Complete Best 'Track 3', a four-song extended play featuring a cover album as a bonus disc.

Background and development

In September 2009, Superfly released the act's second studio album Box Emotions, their second release in a row to reach number one on Oricon's album chart. This was followed by a single, "Dancing on the Fire", Superfly's second upbeat dance song to be used in commercials for Canon's Digital IXUS range of cameras.

On June 18, Superfly released the song "Tamashii Revolution", a song used as the theme song of the NHK broadcast of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, played during relay clips and highlight shows. It became one of Superfly's biggest commercial successes, eventually becoming certified platinum twice by the RIAJ.

"Wildflower" was first announced as being the theme song for the drama Gold on June 15. It was the second drama starring Yūki Amami, after "My Best of My Life" was used for Boss in 2009. Ochi wrote the lyrics for the song after reading the script for the drama, and was inspired by the stoic story-line and language. Ochi wrote the song about wildflowers, wanting to create a song that reflected the feeling of wanting to live earnestly and strongly.

Wildflower (Hank Crawford album)

Wildflower is the fourteenth album led by saxophonist Hank Crawford and his third released on the Kudu label in 1973.

Reception

AllMusic awarded the album 4 stars stating "Wildflower is indispensable as a shining example of '70s groove jazz at its best".
