Windows (film)

Windows is a 1980 erotic thriller film starring Talia Shire, Joseph Cortese and Elizabeth Ashley, directed by Gordon Willis.

Background

Willis was the cinematographer of some of the most acclaimed films of the 1970s, among them The Godfather (and its sequel, The Godfather Part II), All the President's Men, Annie Hall and others. This would be his only attempt at directing a movie.

Plot

Emily Hollander (Shire) is the subject of a lesbian obsession at the hands of Andrea Glassen (Ashley), her next-door neighbor. As Emily begins dating detective Bob Luffrono (Cortese), Andrea overflows with jealousy, spying on Hollander through her own window.

Emily, a shy, recently divorced woman, lives alone in a New York apartment. In the opening scene a man has forced his way into her apartment and performs a bizarre "rape" - he forces her to make sounds of erotic satisfaction, and captures them on his tape recorder. She reports the attack to the police the following day, and while they are still interviewing her, Andrea stops by to comfort her.

2015 Windows 10 400

The 2015 Windows 10 400 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race held on August 2, 2015 at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania. Contested over 160 laps on the 2.5 mile (4 km) triangular superspeedway, it was the 21st race of the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Matt Kenseth won the race, his second of the season. Brad Keselowski finished second. Jeff Gordon finished third. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Greg Biffle rounded out the top five.

Kyle Busch won the pole for the race, led 19 laps, was leading the race before running out of fuel on the final lap and finished 21st. Joey Logano led a race high of 97 laps before running out of fuel with three laps to go and finished 20th. The race had 18 lead changes among 13 different drivers, eight caution flag periods for 32 laps and one red flag period that lasted for 14 minutes and 32 seconds.

This was the 33rd career victory for Matt Kenseth, second of the season, first at Pocono Raceway and tenth at the track for Joe Gibbs Racing. Kenseth left Pocono trailing Kevin Harvick by 118–points in the points standings. Despite being the winning manufacturer, Toyota left Pocono trailing Chevrolet by 75–points in the manufacturer standings. But they pulled to within one–point of Ford for second in the standings.

Windows NT

Windows NT is a family of operating systems produced by Microsoft, the first version of which was released in July 1993. It is a processor-independent, multiprocessing, multi-user operating system.

The first version of Windows NT was Windows NT 3.1 and was produced for workstations and server computers. It was intended to complement consumer versions of Windows (including Windows 1.0 through Windows 3.1x) that were based on MS-DOS. Gradually, the Windows NT family was expanded into Microsoft's general-purpose operating system product line for all personal computers, deprecating the Windows 9x family.

"NT" was formerly expanded to "New Technology" but no longer carries any specific meaning. Starting with Windows 2000, "NT" was removed from the product name and is only included in the product version string.

NT was the first purely 32-bit version of Windows, whereas its consumer-oriented counterparts, Windows 3.1x and Windows 9x, were 16-bit/32-bit hybrids. It is a multi-architecture operating system. Initially, it supported several CPU architectures, including IA-32, MIPS, DEC Alpha and PowerPC. The latest versions support x86 (more specifically IA-32 and x64) and ARM. Major features of the Windows NT family include Windows Shell, Windows API, Native API, Active Directory, Group Policy, Hardware Abstraction Layer, NTFS file system, BitLocker, Windows Store, Windows Update, and Hyper-V.

Mac OS Roman

Mac OS Roman is a character encoding primarily used by Mac OS to represent text. It encodes 256 characters, the first 128 of which are identical to ASCII, with the remaining characters including mathematical symbols, diacritics, and additional punctuation marks. It is suitable for English and several other Western languages. Mac OS Roman is a superset of the original Macintosh character set, used in System 1.

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority identifies this encoding using the string "macintosh". The MIME Content-Type for this encoding is therefore "text/plain; charset=macintosh". Mac OS Roman is also referred to as MacRoman or the Apple Standard Roman character set. The Microsoft Windows code page number is 10000.

Codepage layout

The following table shows how characters are encoded in Macintosh Roman. Each character is shown with its Unicode equivalent right below and its decimal code at the bottom.

Legend:

  • ^⌘ The (usually nonprintable) character 0x11 mapped to the Command key glyph () in many fonts, particularly those intended for use as system fonts. It is mappable to the Unicode character U+2318 PLACE OF INTEREST SIGN. The codes 0x12, 0x13, and 0x14 were also used for icons to indicate the shift, option, and control keys in menu items.
  • $ (film)

$, also known as Dollars and in the UK as The Heist, is a 1971 American caper film starring Warren Beatty and Goldie Hawn, and distributed by Columbia Pictures. The movie was written and directed by Richard Brooks and produced by M.J. Frankovich. The supporting cast includes Gert Fröbe, Robert Webber and Scott Brady. The film was partly shot in Hamburg, Germany, which forms the primary location of the film and was supported by the Hamburg Art Museum and Bendestorf Studios.

The film's title appears in the opening credits only in the form of a giant character, as would be used in a sign, being transported by a crane.

    Plot

Set in Hamburg, West Germany, several criminals take advantage of the German bank privacy laws to use safe deposit boxes in a German bank to store large amounts of illicit cash. These include a Las Vegas mobster as well as a ruthless drug smuggler known as the Candy Man and a crooked overbearing U.S. Army sergeant and his meek-mannered partner the Major, who conspire on a big heroin and LSD smuggling score. Joe Collins (Warren Beatty), an American bank security consultant, has been spying on them and makes mysterious and elaborate preparations to steal their money (totaling more than $1.5 million) with the help of Dawn Divine (Goldie Hawn), a hooker with a heart of gold.

  • Lubrication theory

In fluid dynamics, lubrication theory describes the flow of fluids (liquids or gases) in a geometry in which one dimension is significantly smaller than the others. An example is the flow above air hockey tables, where the thickness of the air layer beneath the puck is much smaller than the dimensions of the puck itself.

Internal flows are those where the fluid is fully bounded. Internal flow lubrication theory has many industrial applications because of its role in the design of fluid bearings. Here a key goal of lubrication theory is to determine the pressure distribution in the fluid volume, and hence the forces on the bearing components. The working fluid in this case is often termed a lubricant.

Free film lubrication theory is concerned with the case in which one of the surfaces containing the fluid is a free surface. In that case the position of the free surface is itself unknown, and one goal of lubrication theory is then to determine this. Surface tension may then be significant, or even dominant. Issues of wetting and dewetting then arise. For very thin films (thickness less than one micrometre), additional intermolecular forces, such as Van der Waals forces or disjoining forces, may become significant.
