White Rock Lake

White Rock Lake is a reservoir located in north-east Dallas, Texas (United States). The lake was formed by damming White Rock Creek, which today widens into the lake before continuing south out of the spillway and emptying into the Trinity River. The lake covers 1,254 acres (5.1 km²) in the east Dallas community.

History

Before it was a lake, White Rock Lake was a collection of farms owned by the Daniel and Cox families. The first record of the Daniel family farm is in the Family Bible of Thomas Walker Daniel. He and his wife Frances Herndon Daniel seem to have moved to the White Rock area in the late 1830s and early 1840s. Daniel's son had a good friend during the civil war named Cox. When the war was over, the Cox family moved to land adjacent to the Daniel family. Together they had a joint family cemetery called the Daniel-Cox Cemetery. Other pioneer families such as the Humbards, the Glovers, Lavenders, McCommases, Coxes and Donagheys jointly maintained the cemetery.

White Rock (film)

White Rock is a 1977 documentary film about the 1976 Winter Olympics held in Innsbruck, Austria. The narrator was James Coburn.

The film was directed by Tony Maylam, who at around the same time had also made a concert film featuring the rock group Genesis, Genesis: In Concert. The two films were shown as a double bill in British cinemas in 1977.

A soundtrack, "White Rock" was done by Rick Wakeman in 1977.

The Weinstein Brothers' independent film company Miramax Films produced the film.

White Rock, Maine

White Rock is a populated village in the town of Gorham, Maine. Its CDP population was 708 at 2010. It formerly had a school, called White Rock Elementary, until it closed in 2011 with the coming of Great Falls Elementary on Route 237. White Rock has a long history, and it was named for a large white boulder that stood in front of the current church. The landowner thought it was ugly, and he blew it up. White Rock is also home to part of the Mountain Division Trail, a trail which runs from Fryeburg to Portland (the two are the same trail; however, they are not connected).
