White Rock, Michigan

White Rock is a tiny unincorporated community of Sherman Township at the southeast corner of Huron County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The community is at the mouth of White Rock Creek on the shore of Lake Huron. The community is at 43°42′35″N 82°36′31″W / 43.70972°N 82.60861°W / 43.70972; -82.60861, about three miles north of Forestville and about nine miles south of Harbor Beach on M-25 at the junction with White Rock Road.

The community is named for a large white boulder offshore in Lake Huron at 43°43′09″N 82°36′16″W / 43.71917°N 82.60444°W / 43.71917; -82.60444 that was used as a boundary marker to define the territory ceded by Ottawa, Chippewa, Wyandot, and Potawatomi with the Treaty of Detroit in 1807. The boundary definition in the treaty began with the "mouth of the Miami river of the lakes" or what is now known as the Maumee River at Toledo, Ohio. From there the boundary ran up the middle of the river to the mouth of the Auglaize River at what is now Defiance, Ohio, then due north until it intersected a parallel of latitude at the outlet of Lake Huron into the St. Clair River. This north-south line would become the Michigan Meridian used in surveying of Michigan lands. The intersecting parallel of latitude crossed the meridian at the northeast corner of what is now Sciota Township in Shiawassee County in the middle of the border with Clinton County. From this point the treaty boundary ran northeast to White Rock in Lake Huron, then due east to the international boundary with what was then Upper Canada, and then along the international boundary through the St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, the Detroit River and then into Lake Erie to a point due east of the mouth of the Maumee River, and finally west back to the point of beginning.

White Rock, Maine

White Rock is a populated village in the town of Gorham, Maine. Its CDP population was 708 at 2010. It formerly had a school, called White Rock Elementary, until it closed in 2011 with the coming of Great Falls Elementary on Route 237. White Rock has a long history, and it was named for a large white boulder that stood in front of the current church. The landowner thought it was ugly, and he blew it up. White Rock is also home to part of the Mountain Division Trail, a trail which runs from Fryeburg to Portland (the two are the same trail; however, they are not connected).

White Rock (Cambria) State Marine Conservation Area

White Rock (Cambria) State Marine Conservation Area (SMCA) is a marine protected area located off the coast of the city of Cambria, California on California’s central coast. The marine protected area covers 2.32 square miles (6.0 km²). Within the SMCA the take of all living marine resources is prohibited except the commercial take of giant kelp and bull kelp under certain conditions.

History

White Rock (Cambria) SMCA was established in September 2007 by the California Department of Fish & Game. It was one of 29 marine protected areas adopted during the first phase of the Marine Life Protection Act Initiative. The Marine Life Protection Act Initiative (or MLPAI) is a collaborative public process to create a statewide network of marine protected areas along the California coastline.

Geography and natural features

White Rock (Cambria) SMCA is located off the coast of Cambria and adjoins Cambria State Marine Conservation Area. The SMCA is offshore from the Kenneth S. Norris Rancho Marino Reserve, part of the University of California Natural Reserve System.

Plymouth Rock chicken

The Plymouth Rock is a breed of domestic chicken from the United States. It originated in New England in the 19th century from cross-breeding of Dominiques and Black Javas.

History

The Plymouth Rock was developed in New England in the early 1800s by crossing Dominiques and Black Javas.. John C. Bennett (1804–1867) has been credited with either creating or popularizing the breed.

Colors

In the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, seven color varieties of the Plymouth Rock are recognized: Barred, Blue, Buff, Columbian, Partridge, Silver-penciled and White. In Australia, the Barred variant is split into two separate colors, Dark Barred and Light Barred. The difference between these colors is highly noticeable, with the bars of white color wider and the grey lighter in the Light Barred than in Dark Barred.

Use

The Plymouth Rock was bred as a dual-purpose fowl, meaning that it was valued both for its meat and the egg-laying ability of the hens. It is a cold-hardy bird. The hens lay brown eggs, and continue laying all through the winter with decreased production.

Rock, Michigan

Rock is an unincorporated community in Delta County, Michigan, United States. Rock is located in Maple Ridge Township along M-35 and the Canadian National Railway, 16.5 miles (26.6 km) north-northwest of Gladstone. Rock has a post office with ZIP code 49880.

History

Rock was first settled in 1865 by Chicago and North Western Railway workers. J.R. Steele bought land in the community from the railroad in 1866 and settled there, and George English built a store there in the same year. The community was originally called Malton Spur, and a post office called Malton operated from March 28, 1879 to April 30, 1883; Henrietta Crawford served as postmaster of this post office. The community was then renamed Maple Ridge, but changed its name again to Rock when applying for a new post office. The new name was coined by John Niequist and was derived from the rocky terrain in the area. The new post office opened on June 16, 1886, with Niequist as postmaster.

Climate

This climatic region is typified by large seasonal temperature differences, with warm to hot (and often humid) summers and cold (sometimes severely cold) winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Rock has a humid continental climate, abbreviated "Dfb" on climate maps.

Michigan

Michigan ⁱ/ˈmɪʃᵻɡən/ is a state located in the Great Lakes and midwestern regions of the United States. The name Michigan is the French form of the Ojibwa word mishigamaa, meaning "large water" or "large lake". Michigan is the tenth most populous of the 50 United States, with the 11th most extensive total area (the largest state by total area east of the Mississippi River). Its capital is Lansing, and the largest city is Detroit.

Michigan is the only state to consist of two peninsulas. The Lower Peninsula, to which the name Michigan was originally applied, is often noted to be shaped like a mitten. Michigan: Report from Hell

Michigan: Report from Hell, released as Michigan in Japan, is a survival horror game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and published by Spike. It was released in Japan on August 5, 2004, in Europe on September 30, 2005, and in Australia in 2005. This game was never released in North America. Directed by Akira Ueda and planned by Goichi Suda, the game focuses on a news crew for the fictional ZaKa TV, dedicated to covering strange phenomena. The game is unique in the sense that it is played almost entirely though the viewfinder of a camera; and the game is lost if the player runs out of film before solving the mysteries in a mission.

Plot

In Michigan, players take the role of a rookie cameraman for ZaKa TV, the entertainment division of the powerful ZaKa conglomerate. Accompanied by Brisco, an outspoken sound engineer, and Pamela, a reporter, the player is sent to investigate a mysterious mist that has descended over the city. The player quickly discovers that the mist is somehow transforming people into fleshy, leech-like monsters with human limbs. Pamela is attacked by the creatures, and is later found in the process of transforming into one. The player, Brisco, and a new female reporter are sent to investigate the source of the monster outbreak.
