    Big TV (album)

Big TV (stylised as BIG TV) is the third studio album by the British indie rock band White Lies. It was released on 12 August 2013 through Fiction Records in the UK and Europe, and on 20 August 2013 in the US (through Harvest Records) and Canada (Universal Music Canada).

On 18 August 2013, the album debuted at number four on the UK Albums Chart.

In an interview with NME in January 2013, bassist Charles Cave said that the album is the band's most melodic record, but there is still a pretty definitive White Lies sound. The album follows a story of a couple who leave a provincial area for a big city and, according to Cave, the idea of equality in a relationship is a recurring theme.

Big TV is the first White Lies album to feature 12 rather than 10 tracks, two of which ("Space i" and "Space ii") are instrumental interludes.

    Formats and packaging

The album is available both as a regular CD and a deluxe 2 CD hardback book edition, featuring seven original demos of songs from the album and stills from the studio sessions. The Japanese version includes the seven demos from the hardback book edition as well as a remix of "There Goes Our Love Again", all on one disc. Big TV was also released digitally and on 180gsm vinyl.

    White Lies (for my mother)

    Awards and honours

White Lies (for my mother) received the 1993 "Edna Staebler Award for Creative Non-Fiction". The book was also nominated for the 1992 "VanCity Book Award", and The Vancouver Sun's 1992 listing as one of the "Six Best Books of the Year".

  • White Lies (band)

White Lies are an English post-punk band from Ealing, London. Formerly known as Fear of Flying, the core band members are Harry McVeigh (lead vocals, guitar), Charles Cave (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums). The band perform live as a five-piece, when sidemen Tommy Bowen and Rob Lee join the line up. White Lies' musical style has been described as dark yet uplifting by the media, drawing comparisons to Joy Division, Editors, The Killers and Interpol.

White Lies formed in October 2007, after writing songs that they felt didn't suit their original band. After delaying their first performance for five months to build up media hype, they earned a recording contract with Fiction Records days after their debut. The release of singles "Unfinished Business" and "Death" led to tours and festival appearances in the United Kingdom and North America, including a headline performance at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend and a place on the 2009 NME Awards Tour. At the beginning of 2009, White Lies featured in multiple "ones to watch" polls for the coming year, including the BBC's Sound of 2009 poll and the BRITs Critics' Choice Award.

White Lies (Paul van Dyk song)

"White Lies", released in July 2007, is the first single from Paul van Dyk's album In Between. It features vocals from Jessica Sutta, former member of the Pussycat Dolls.

    Background

"I had a lot of fun working with Jessica. Her lascivious voice and sexy attitude reflects the theme of the single perfectly." said Paul van Dyk via press release.

Jessica also spoke about working with Paul Van Dyk:

    Reception and remixes

The single received positive reviews. "Paul Van Dyk makes a grand return to the club scene with his new single "White Lies and Jessica Sutta also proves that Nicole Scherzinger isn't the only Pussycat Doll who can sing lead. The combination of these two results in a great song with some great remixes. While only one mix is what you'd expect from Paul Van Dyk, all of the mixes are excellent and worth checking out."

    Big Tv

    by: White Lies

    Slow
    I'm gonna settle down slow
Down to the hum of electric life and soul
    Faith
    In my hand to trade
    But for the word and
The light of a bitter saint
And you can get me work?
But I can't work for free
    I've got a room downtown
With a bed and a big TV
If you can raise a star
    From garbage on the street
Then you can make a modern life
For a modern girl to lead
    Alone, I feel alone
When I'm living in a buildind
Like a tooth at heaven's throat
    True, it's a beautiful view
But you know they're gonna set it on fire
When they feel like something new
But why can't anything be real?
    Emotion like the movies feel...
A pill to break the drone of reverie...
So bring me to the hand of fate
The river or the new arcade
So I can wash the empty hour away
Cos I'm living in a room downtown
