Down with Webster

Down with Webster is a Canadian rap rock band from The Beaches area of Toronto who signed with Universal Motown in April 2009.

Down with Webster was originally formed for a middle school talent show. The band released their first official EP, Time to Win, Vol. 1, on October 6, 2009. The band has achieved success from all three singles released from Time to Win, Vol. 1. All three singles were certified Platinum in Canada. The album itself was certified Gold in Canada. Their second release, Time to Win, Vol. 2 was released on October 31, 2011. In 2014, they put out their second full-length album, entitled "Party For Your Life."

Down with Webster has sold over 50,000 albums and has sold nearly 500,000 singles. The band has been nominated for Juno awards, MuchMusic Video Awards and Canadian Radio Music Awards.

History

1998–2008: Early Years

Down With Webster was originally formed for Glen Ames Sr Public school battle of the bands show in 1998 by band members Patrick "Pat" Gillet and Tyler Armes. In mid-2003, the band released an independent self made six track CDR EP entitled "The Reverb Session July '03". This release was primarily sold at shows and local concerts from July 2003 to 2004. In 2006, the band played at the NXNE Festival and in 2007 released an independent album. Former Band member Kyle "Kap Oneoh" Fairlie was an actor in his youth. He played roles such as Rabbit in the TV series Franklin. He was also in a few other small film and television roles.

Down with Webster (album)

Down with Webster is the self-titled debut album by Canadian band Down with Webster. It was self released on June 26, 2007. The band worked with producer James Robertson on this album. Robertson later co-produced the band's major label debut, "Time to Win, Vol. 1".

"Weekends" received airplay on the Toronto radio station, CHUM FM. A music video for "Miracle Mile" was filmed. It was directed by Geoff McLean.

Future Appearances

"Miracle Mile" later appeared on Down with Webster's major label debut "Time to Win, Vol. 1" in 2009. "Miracle Mile" was used on Universal Motowns insistence.

"Grind" appeared on Down with Webster's "Time to Win, Vol. 2" which was released on October 31, 2011. Some of the songs on the album were included in the setlist for the WINtour 2011 concert tour.

White flag

White flags have had different meanings throughout history and depending on the locale.

Flag of temporary truce in order to parley (negotiate)

The white flag is an internationally recognized protective sign of truce or ceasefire, and request for negotiation. It is also used to symbolize surrender, since it is often the weaker party which requests negotiation. A white flag signifies to all that an approaching negotiator is unarmed, with an intent to surrender or a desire to communicate. Persons carrying or waving a white flag are not to be fired upon, nor are they allowed to open fire. The use of the flag to surrender is included in the Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907.

The improper use of the flag is forbidden by the rules of war and constitutes a war crime of perfidy. There have been numerous reported cases of such behavior in conflicts, such as combatants using white flags as a ruse to approach and attack enemy combatants, or killings of combatants attempting to surrender by carrying white flags.

Marco Casagrande

Marco Casagrande, (born May 7, 1971), is a Finnish architect, environmental artist, architectural theorist, writer and professor of architecture. He graduated from Helsinki University of Technology department of architecture (2001).

Early life

Casagrande was born in Turku, Finland, to a well-off Finnish-Italian Catholic family. He spent his childhood in Ylitornio in Finnish Lapland, but went to school in Karis, a southern Finland small town, before moving to Helsinki to study architecture.

Mercenary and writer

Casagrande claimed that he volunteered for the Bosnian Croat Defence Forces HVO in 1993 after his service in the Finnish Army. He wrote under the pen name Luca Moconesi a controversial book Mostarin tien liftarit / Hitchhikers on the Road to Mostar (WSOY 1997) about his alleged experiences in the Bosnian Civil War, and based on descriptions of war crimes committed by the main character in the autobiographical book, he came under suspicion as a possible war criminal. After becoming under suspicion he claimed that the book was in fact a work of fiction. The truth about Casagrande's involvement in the war remains uncertain.
