What About Me (Quicksilver Messenger Service album)

What About Me is the fifth album by American psychedelic rock band Quicksilver Messenger Service. Released in December 1970 and recorded partly at the same sessions that produced Just for Love, the album is the last to feature pianist Nicky Hopkins and the last pre-reunion effort to feature founding members David Freiberg and John Cipollina.

Reception

Writing for Allmusic, music critic Lindsay Planer wrote of the album "Musically, there is little to delineate the fifth long-player from Quicksilver Messenger Service, What About Me, from their previous effort, Just for Love. Not surprisingly, material for both was initiated during a prolific two-month retreat..."

    What About Me

    by: Channel 3

    Another early motel morning
Bourbon sits thick on her tongue
Neon flashes on a plastic tray
    What about me?
    Doris reaches for a smoke
    Dented pillow, goodbye note
She’s ready for another lonely day
    What about me?
She’s lost hope in tomorrow for today
    “What about me?”
    Back into the cocktail dress
Peroxide hair, God, such a mess
Fix lunch for the boy without a dad
    What about me?
    Hustle tips until 2 A.M.
    Find another man again
Until dawn forget what makes her feel so sad
    What about me?
She’s lost hope in tomorrow for today
    “What about me?”
Just another lonely person in this cold dark world
Stopped looking for emotional messiahs long ago
Just another lonely person in this cold dark world
    Look the other way now!
    Only sees what she believes
No more love, no more dreams
They’re shattered like the chipped nails on her hand
    What about me?
Been so long there’s no more tears
Desperate cries that no one hears
Can’t you see her, don’t you understand?
    What about me?
She’s lost hope in tomorrow for today
