Wet nurse

A wet nurse is a woman who breast feeds and cares for another's child. Wet nurses are employed when the mother is unable or chooses not to nurse the child herself. Wet-nursed children may be known as "milk-siblings", and in some cultures the families are linked by a special relationship of milk kinship. Mothers who nurse each other's babies are engaging in a reciprocal act known as cross-nursing or co-nursing.

Reasons

A wet nurse can help when a baby's natural mother is unable or chooses not to feed the infant. Before the development of baby formulas in the 20th century, when a mother was unable to breastfeed her baby, the baby's life was put in danger if a wet nurse was not available. There are many reasons why a mother is unable to lactate or to produce sufficient breast milk. Reasons include the serious or chronic illness of the mother and her treatment which creates a temporary difficulty to nursing. Additionally, a mother's taking drugs (prescription or recreational) may necessitate a wet nurse if a drug in any way changes the content of the mother's milk. Some women choose not to breastfeed for social reasons.

Nurse (album)

Nurse was the first major label album released by the band Therapy?. It was released on 2 November 1992 on A&M Records. The album was mainly recorded at Loco Studio in Caerleon, Wales, apart from "Gone" which was recorded in Annamoe, Ireland. It marked a departure from the noise punk style of the two mini-albums, being a more industrial-sounding record. The album was rated favourably by critics and reached number 38 in the UK Albums Chart.

The album was released on 12" vinyl, CD and cassette. In the US, the album was released on limited edition red 12" vinyl, CD and cassette.

A remastered CD version of the album by the original producer, Harvey Birrell, was included in The Gemil Box, released on 18 November 2013.

Peggy Anderson

Peggy Anderson (July 14, 1938 – January 17, 2016) was an American author and journalist, best known for her 1979 work Nurse, which profiled the work of a nurse and sold millions of copies.

Anderson was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1938, to Catherine Anderson, a nurse, and her husband Wilbert Anderson. She graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, and then joined the Peace Corps. While with the Peace Corps, she taught English for two years in the early 1960s in Togo. After her time in the Peace Corps, she worked as a reporter at The Washington Monthly and The Philadelphia Inquirer (from 1969-1973).

She wrote three well-known books: The Daughters (1972), about the Daughters of the American Revolution; Nurse (1979); and Children's Hospital (1985).

Nurse was a major best-seller. The book was an account of the working life of a nurse, based on an pseudonymized series of interviews with a 27-year-old nurse named Philadelphia. The book was made into a movie and a TV series starring Michael Learned, which won an Emmy award. It was suggested that she title the book "Scar Wars" (playing on the recent popularity of the film "Star Wars"), but Anderson stuck with the less sensationalistic title Nurse. The nurse, nicknamed "Mary Benjamin" in the book, at the time insisted on her anonymity, and "steadfastly protected her identity". She was later identified as Mary Fish and became a life-long friend of Anderson's. For the book, Fish received $2,000 and 5% of profits from the book, for meeting with Anderson for 60 interviews, of two to six hours each.

Nurse (2015 TV series)

Nurse is a BBC sitcom broadcast on BBC Two, written by Paul Whitehouse, David Cummings and Esther Coles. It is about a community mental health nurse (Esther Coles) who visits her patients in their homes and is based on the sessions she has with these patients (most of whom are played by Paul Whitehouse), other actors who play patients include Cecilia Noble, Rosie Cavaliero, Simon Day, Jason Maza, Vilma Hollingbery, Jo Enright and Sue Elliot Nichols. The first series started broadcasting on 10 March 2015 and finished broadcasting on 31 March 2015.

Wet (Nicole Scherzinger song)

"Wet" is a song by American recording artist Nicole Scherzinger, taken from her debut solo studio album Killer Love (2011). The song was written by Ester Dean and Traci Hale, co-written and produced by Norwegian duo StarGate (Tor E. Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen) and Sandy Vee. The song was serviced as the fourth single from the album to British radio stations on August 28, 2011, by Polydor Records, while in Australia it was released in the following month.

The dance-pop and pop song speak of Scherzinger singing that "her body is aching for a man's touch". It received generally positive reviews from music critics. The song received moderate commercial success where it peaked at number twenty-one on the UK Singles Chart, in addition to peaking at number ten on the Irish Singles Chart, where it also became one of her highest charting releases. The accompanying music video for "Wet" was directed by Justin Francis. It was generally received by critics which favored Scherzinger's intricate choreography.

Wet (album)

Wet is an album released by Barbra Streisand in 1979. The album is a concept album of sorts with all the songs referring to, or expressing different interpretations of, water. Wet is also the first and the last word sung on the album.

The album was a major success for Barbra Streisand, due largely to the album's No. 1 hit single, "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)", a duet with American disco singer Donna Summer which underwent a retitling and change of emphasis in order to qualify under the water theme.

The third track on the album, "Splish Splash," is Barbra Streisand's cover of the Bobby Darin classic, which featured background vocals by Toto lead singer Bobby Kimball.

The album is peaked at No. 7 on the US, Canadian and Australian charts and has been certified as Platinum by the RIAA.
