Westfield Academy, Yeovil

Westfield Academy is a secondary school in Yeovil, Somerset, England. The school has 836 students aged between 11 and 16 years. In August 2011, it became an academy. It is situated north of Summerlands Hospital.

History

Grammar school

Yeovil School was a two form-entry grammar school for around 400 boys run by Somerset Education Committee.

Comprehensive

The school was created as a comprehensive school in 1975 following the abandonment of Grammar School education in the Yeovil area. The school was an amalgamation of the first to fifth forms of Yeovil High School, Yeovil School and Summerleaze Secondary Modern School. The Sixth Forms were relocated to Yeovil College. Westfield School utilised the buildings of the former Yeovil High School and Westfield Junior School, which were located on opposite sides of a large playing field. The displaced junior school moved to the Summerleaze site, and became Parcroft Junior School. In 2010 the schools combined to form Oaklands Primary School.

Algonquin, Illinois

Algonquin is a village in Illinois located in both McHenry and Kane counties. It is a northwest suburb of Chicago, located approximately 40 miles from the Loop. The 2010 Census placed the Village's population at 30,046, growing considerably from the 2000 Census figure of 23,276.

The village is known as "The Gem of the Fox River Valley", since its downtown is nestled in the heart of Illinois' Fox River Valley. Established in 1890 and long known as a small river community, the village is making the transition into a major regional hub, as it has experienced considerable suburban growth over the past 20 years. Now stretching all the way west to the busy Randall Road corridor, Algonquin has become a major center of retail activity, with popular shopping centers and various well known restaurants, and a growing corporate campus. Additionally, the village continues to see considerable residential growth. The Village is proud that it has managed its growth to increase the commercial tax base, build great neighborhoods, preserve its character and history, and substantially increase its recreational offerings and quality of life.

Yeovil

Yeovil (/ˈjoʊvɪl/ YOH-vil) is a town and civil parish in south Somerset, England with a population of 45,000. The town lies within the local district of South Somerset and the Yeovil parliamentary constituency, situated at the southern boundary of Somerset, 130 miles (210 km) from London, 40 miles (64 km) south of Bristol and 30 miles (48 km) from Taunton.

It has palaeolithic remains, was on an old Roman road and was recorded in the Domesday Book as the town of Givele or Ivle, and later became a centre for the glove-making industry. During the Middle Ages the population of the town suffered from the Black Death and several serious fires. In the 20th century it developed into a centre of the aircraft and defence industries, which made it a target for bombing in the Second World War, with one of the largest employers being Westland Aircraft. Additionally, the Fleet Air Arm has a station RNAS Yeovilton (HMS Heron), the primary base of the Royal Navy's Westland Lynx and Sea King helicopters, several miles north of the town and is a major local employer (Ministry of Defence). Several other manufacturing and retail companies also have bases in the town. Plans have been proposed for various regeneration projects in the town.

Yeovil is a county constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. It has been represented since 2015 by Marcus Fysh, Conservative.
