West Virginia

West Virginia ⁱ/ˌwɛst vərˈdʒɪnjə/ is a state located in the Appalachian region of the Southern United States. It is bordered by Virginia to the southeast, Kentucky to the southwest, Ohio to the northwest, Pennsylvania to the north (and, slightly, east), and Maryland to the northeast. West Virginia is the 41st largest by area and the 38th most populous of the 50 United States. The capital and largest city is Charleston.

West Virginia became a state following the Wheeling Conventions of 1861, in which delegates from some Unionist counties of northwestern Virginia decided to break away from Virginia during the American Civil War, although they included many secessionist counties in the new state. West Virginia was admitted to the Union on June 20, 1863, and was a key Civil War border state. West Virginia was the only state to form by separating from a Confederate state, the first to separate from any state since Maine separated from Massachusetts, and was one of two states formed during the American Civil War (the other being Nevada, which separated from Utah Territory).

West Virginia Route 101

West Virginia Route 101 is an unsigned 1-mile (1.6 km) long north–south state highway in the City of Huntington in Cabell County, West Virginia. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 60 (31st Street). The northern terminus is at US 60 (Third Avenue).

From 31st Street, WV 101 follows Eighth Avenue west to 29th Street, where WV 101 turns north to follow 29th Street to Third Avenue.

History

WV 101 was part of US 60 until US 60 was moved two blocks to the east in 1990.

West Virginia Route 26

West Virginia Route 26 is a north–south state highway located within Preston County in the U.S. state of West Virginia. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 50 in Fellowsville. The northern terminus is at the Pennsylvania state line northeast of Glade Farms, where WV 26 continues as Pennsylvania Route 281.

West Virginia Chaos is an American soccer team based in Charleston, West Virginia, United States. Founded in 2003, the team plays in the Premier Development League (PDL), the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid, in the South Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference.

The team plays its home games at Schoenbaum Stadium, where they have played since 2004. The team's colors are white, red and black.

History

West Virginia Chaos, which is part of the larger Chaos soccer club, joined the PDL in 2003, but suffered a disappointing first season, ending in 6th and last place in the Mid-Atlantic Division with a 2-14-1 record; their only wins came over Greenville Lions in May, 1-0 off a goal by Stuart Bracher, and over the Columbus Shooting Stars in June, 3-2 with goals by Thomas Whittaker, Benjamini Chavolla and Hans Schubert.

2004 saw an improvement in form, with four wins on the season, but the team still finished last in their division, behind Chesapeake Dragons on goal difference, and 21 points behind league leaders Carolina Dynamo. The Chaos actually began the season strongly, winning three of their first four games (3-1 over Chesapeake Dragons, 4-0 over Raleigh CASL Elite and 1-0 over Williamsburg Legacy), and played out an astonishing 10-goal game against Carolina Dynamo in which Chaos's Shaun Oliveira scored a hat trick but still ended up on the losing side. However, the Chaos suffered a dramatic downturn in form as the season progressed, suffering a 6-1 thrashing by Chesapeake Dragons, and three consecutive 4-0 losses to Raleigh, Williamsburg and Richmond Kickers Future.
