West Melbourne, Florida

West Melbourne is a city in Brevard County, Florida, United States. It was created in 1959 to stop the area from being annexed into the City of Melbourne. As of the 2010 United States Census, the population was 18,355, reflecting an increase of 8,531 from the 9,824 counted in the 2000 Census. In 1970, the city's population was approximately 3,050. Since 2000, the city has experienced the highest population growth percentage of any municipality in Brevard County. It is part of the Palm Bay–Melbourne–Titusville Metropolitan Statistical Area.

In 2005, the City of West Melbourne started charging property taxes for the first time in its existence (since 1959). Prior to 2005, the city survived on "fees only" for its $17 million budget.

West Melbourne is located at 28°4′40″N 80°39′55″W / 28.07778°N 80.66528°W / 28.07778; -80.66528 (28.077895, -80.665326).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.2 square miles (26.5 km²). 10.2 square miles (26.4 km²) of it is land, and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.21%) is water.

Melbourne (album)

Melbourne is a compilation album by the Models, recorded in the early 1980s and released in 2001. The album was distributed by Shock Records.

The album was compiled by dedicated Models fan, Mark Burchett (a band booking agent for Premier Artists), who compiled sixteen cuts of the Models' material before they signed with Mushroom Records, consisting of demos, studio cuts and live tracks with the assistance of Melbourne public radio station 3RRRFM. The liner notes for the album are written by Australian Rock historian Ian McFarlane.

Melbourne (song)

"Melbourne" is the second single by The Whitlams from their breakthrough album, Eternal Nightcap. It was released on 27 January 1998. The song peaked at #70 on the Australian ARIA singles chart. It was also included on The Whitlams' best-of album, Truth, Beauty and a Picture of You. A music video edit of this song is shorter and features more strings. This mix was included on the compilation album. Melbourne was also performed live with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in September 2007. Also, on the single, an earlier version of the song "400 Miles from Darwin" was included, which was later re-recorded for their 1999 album, Love This City. The demo was also included on the 2002 limited edition album, Rarities: 1992–2003.

HSV (TV station)

HSV is a television station in Melbourne. It is part of the Seven Network, one of the three main commercial television networks in Australia, and its first and oldest station, having been launched in time for the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne. HSV-7 is the home of the AFL coverage.

The HSV building (also known as 'Broadcast Centre Melbourne') is the network's operations hub, where the Master Control Room is located for all metropolitan and regional feeds to be controlled. Programming line-up, advertisement output, feed switching, time zone monitoring and national transmission output are delivered here. All Seven Network owned and operated studios have their LIVE signals relayed here (e.g.) ATN's output is fed to HSV and then transmitted via satellite or fibre optic to the towers around metropolitan Sydney, etc.

History

The station began test transmissions in July 1956, and became the first 7 station in Australia and the first in Melbourne, commenced broadcasting on 4 November, soon after the Commonwealth Government started issuing television licenses. In the opening ceremony, Eric Pearce declared :

Florida, Buenos Aires

Florida (officially Florida Este) is a mostly residential barrio of the Vicente López Partido in the northern suburbs of Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is principally a middle-class neighbourhood and is located between the barrios of Olivos and Vicente López, also in the same partido (department).

Location

The city is located between The Autopista Pascual Palazzo (mostly known as "Panamericana" or "Acceso Norte") highway and the Maipú Avenue. The Acceso Norte splits the district into two neighborhoods: Florida Este (from Panamericana to Maipú Avenue) and Florida Oeste (from Panamericana to De los Constituyentes Avenue).

Florida is served by the Mitre Line, which provides easy access to the city of Buenos Aires. Due to the railway lines, Este and Oeste neighborhoods are also called "Florida Mitre" or "Florida Belgrano". Its main commercial area is centered on General San Martín avenue.

History

Florida was founded in 1891 when the Buenos Aires and Rosario Railway opened a station in the section from Belgrano that then reached Bartolomé Mitre, Borges and San Isidro. Some versions state that the station (and subsequently the village) was named "Florida" to commemorate a victory over Spanish army in the Paraje La Florida of Alto Perú on May 25, 1814, during the War of Independence.
