Welland Park Academy

Welland Park Academy, or Welland Park School as it is better known is a middle school in Market Harborough, Leicestershire for students aged 11 to 14.

School history

The school was originally known as Welland Park High School. There is another nearby secondary school, the Kibworth High School, that feeds into the Robert Smyth School (upper school). In 2009 the school finished 3rd in the Times Spelling Bee final at Leicester Square, London. The school recently became an academy. Welland Park Academy is currently owned by Julie McBrearty.

Curriculum

Whilst it caters for pupils aged 11 to 14, it also works with different community groups providing facilities. Subjects offered for Key Stage 3 (KS3) include the core SATs subjects of English, Maths and Science; Modern Foreign Languages (French and German); Design subjects including Art, Textiles and Food Technology; Humanities including Geography, History and Religious Studies.

It is located on Welland Park Road and like the road, is named after the River Welland by which it was built. It has an Octagonal Hall that is used for many theatrical productions in the town.

Park School (Omaha)

Park School is located at 1320 South 29th Street in south Omaha, Nebraska. The school was designed by Thomas R. Kimball and built in 1918. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 and designated an Omaha Landmark in 1990.

About

Named for its proximity to Hanscom Park and built with masonry on a frame of reinforced concrete, the footprint for the school was built on a "U" shape. Two stories had 18 rooms, with no original gymnasium or library because of spending constraints caused by World War I. The school was closed in the 1980s, and Omaha Public Schools sold it in 1988. The building was renovated and sold as apartments.

Park Tudor School

Park Tudor School is a non-sectarian coeducational independent college preparatory day school founded in 1902. It offers programs from junior kindergarten through high school. It is located in the Meridian Hills neighborhood of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. A merger of Tudor Hall School for Girls (founded in 1902) and the all-male Park School (founded in 1914) formed the present-day school in 1970. The total number of students enrolled for the 2015-2016 school year was 981.

History

Park Tudor is the product of a merger of two single-sex independent schools, Tudor Hall School for Girls and Park School.

Tudor Hall School for Girls was established in 1902 by Fredonia Allen and James Cumming Smith. Allen named the school after her mother, Ann Tudor Allen. The school was originally located at 16th and Meridian streets in Indianapolis. It later moved to a two-building campus at 32nd and Meridian streets where it remained for several decades. In 1960, Tudor Hall moved to the Charles B. Sommers estate on Cold Spring Road, next to Park School. In addition to the day school program, it fostered a significant boarding program with a dormitory on the second North Meridian campus. After the 1970 merger with Park School, Tudor Hall was consolidated with Park School into the College Avenue campus.

Welland

Welland (2011 population 50,631) is a city in the Regional Municipality of Niagara in Southern Ontario, Canada.

The city is located in the centre of Niagara. Within a half hour or less, residents can travel to Niagara Falls, Niagara-On-The-Lake, St. Catharines, Port Colborne and Buffalo. It has been traditionally known as the place where rails and water meet, referring to the railways from Buffalo to Toronto and Southwestern Ontario, and the waterways of Welland Canal and Welland River, which played a great role in the city's development. The city is separated by the Welland River and Welland Canal which links Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Welland is the home of C Company of The Lincoln and Welland Regiment which is part of 32 Canadian Brigade Group, the classification of this unit is Light Infantry.

Welland's nickname is The Rose City.

History

The city was first settled in 1788 by the United Empire Loyalists. On 19 October 1814, Canadian forces led by George Hay, 8th Marquess of Tweeddale, met an American raiding party, numbering approximately nine hundred, near the eastern edge of the present community during the Battle of Cook's Mills. After an intense skirmish, the Americans retreated to Buffalo, New York. Cook's Mills was the second to last engagement of the War of 1812 on Canadian soil.

Welland (provincial electoral district)

Welland (formerly Niagara Centre) is a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since the 2007 provincial election. Its population in 2006 was 112,875.

The current electoral district was created in 2003: 74.9% of the riding came from Niagara Centre riding, 22.5% from Erie—Lincoln and 2.7% from Niagara Falls riding.

The riding also existed from 1867 until 1981 under different boundaries.

A new riding of Niagara Centre was created before the 1999 election from small parts of Lincoln and St. Catharines—Brock ridings, and almost all of Welland—Thorold riding.

Geography

Welland riding consists of the cities of Welland, Thorold, and Port Colborne, the Township of Wainfleet, and the part of the City of St. Catharines lying south of a line drawn from the western city limit east along St. Paul Street West, northeast along St. Paul Crescent, east and south along Twelve Mile Creek, and east along Glendale Avenue to the eastern city limit.
