Splash! (UK TV series)

Splash! is a British television series that follows celebrities as they try to master the art of diving. The celebrities perform each week in front of a panel of judges and a live audience in an Olympic-size diving pool with the result each week partly determined by public vote. Gabby Logan and Vernon Kay present the show, whilst Team GB Olympic Bronze Medal winning diver Tom Daley is the expert mentor to the celebrities. It is filmed at the Inspire: Luton Sports Village, which is based in Stopsley, Luton. The show premiered on ITV on 5 January 2013 winning the ratings battle for its 7.15pm-8.15pm slot with an average audience of 5.6 million viewers, a network share of 23.6%, however, it was cancelled on 15 February 2014 after just two series.

The format for the show originated from the Celebrity Splash! franchise created by television production company Eyeworks in the Netherlands, and was broadcast on SBS 6 as Sterren Springen Op Zaterdag (Celebrities Jumping On Saturday).

Splash! (B'z song)

"Splash!" is the forty-second single by B'z, released on June 7, 2006. This song is one of B'z many number-one singles in Oricon charts. Splash! was re-recorded in 2012 with English lyrics and released as part of the band's iTunes-exclusive English album

Splash! (festival)

The Splash! Festival is one of Europe's biggest hip hop and reggae festivals. It used to take place at the Oberrabenstein reservoir near Chemnitz, Germany until 2006. In 2007 and 2008 the festival was held on the Pouch peninsula in Bitterfeld, Saxony-Anhalt. Since 2009 the Ferropolis in Gräfenhainichen is the ground for the Splash! festival.

The first Splash! took place in 1998 in the inner city of Chemnitz, in a former powerhouse. From 1999 on, it was hillside the Oberrabenstein reservoir.

In the early years there were two stages, one for hip hop, and one for reggae. In 2006, the festival had extended to six stages and four party tents. The hip hop stage is adjacent to the reservoir, visitors can see the concerts while bathing. The tents house, amongst hip hop and drum and bass DJs, dancehall and reggae sound systems, a graffiti contest and ITF matches.

The name "Splash" hints at the waterside location of the festival and the phrase "to make a splash".

History

Weekend (Ceylonese newspaper)

Weekend was an English language weekly newspaper in Ceylon published by Independent Newspapers Limited, part of M. D. Gunasena & Company. It was founded in 1965 as the Weekend Sun and was published from Colombo. In 1966 it had an average net sales of 45,000. It had an average circulation of 48,590 in 1973. The paper later changed its name to Weekend.

By 1973/74 the Independent Newspapers publications had become vocal critics of Sirimavo Bandaranaike's government. The government sealed Independent Newspapers' presses and closed it down on 19 April 1974 using the Emergency (Defence) Regulations. Independent Newspapers resumed publication on 30 March 1977 but the three year closure had taken its toll. Faced financial problems Independent Newspapers and its various publications closed down on 26 December 1990.

Weekend (EP)

Weekend is the second studio EP of the New Zealand band Young Lyre, released on 25 November 2015.

Background

In the 2011, the band released their first EP, title Night Swimming. After a long period of tour and festivals, the band started to produce their second EP. On 24 May 2014, the band started their crowd funding campaign to help funding their second EP. The campaign of $2,000 meet its goal on 21 February 2015 with the total of $2,135. The EP was officially released on 27 November 2015.

Singles

The first single from the album, was "We Go Faster" released on 10 May 2015. The music video to the video was crowdfunded alongside the album production. Also they received the help to fund the video and the album by a New Zealand project called NZ On Air.

Weekend (1967 film)

Weekend (French: Week-end) is a 1967 black comedy film written and directed by Jean-Luc Godard and starring Mireille Darc and Jean Yanne, both of whom were mainstream French TV stars. Jean-Pierre Léaud, iconic comic star of numerous French New Wave films including Truffaut's Les Quatre Cent Coups (The Four Hundred Blows) and Godard's earlier Masculin, féminin, also appears in two roles. Raoul Coutard served as cinematographer; Weekend would be his last collaboration with Godard for over a decade.

The film was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 18th Berlin International Film Festival in 1968.

Plot

Roland (Jean Yanne) and Corinne (Mireille Darc) are a bourgeois couple, although each has a secret lover and conspires to murder the other. They set out by car for Corinne's parents' home in the country to secure her inheritance from her dying father, resolving to resort to murder if necessary.

The trip becomes a chaotically picaresque journey through a French countryside populated by bizarre characters and punctuated by violent car accidents. After their own car (a Facel-Vega) is destroyed in a collision, the characters wander through a series of vignettes involving class struggle and figures from literature and history, such as Louis Antoine de Saint-Just (Jean-Pierre Léaud) and Emily Brontë (Blandine Jeanson).
